Hi, thinking about going to North Somerset this year, probably August. Haven't been since I was a child and it wasn't in a tent. We'd like a site which is fairly quiet but not too much of a trek to Weston, Burnham, Bath, Wells etc. Does anyone have any suggestions - its a tent on grass, not bothered about EHU. Not bothered about having kids play stuff. Been looking at Northam Farm but maybe its a bit big - does it get very busy/noisy?

If you like basic and no frills this will suit.  Check out the reviews.

Farm based site, friendly owners.  Stream borders flat well drained tent field.  Situated near Axbridge which is ideally located for all attractions in North Somerset.  15 minute drive to the Brean/Burnham coast.  10 Minute drive to Cheddar, and 20 minute drive to Wells.

Allows campfires.  Cheap and cheerful.

I want a family site, kids are older but under 18. Not sure I want a site that has campfires, last one I was on had hot ash flying around, which is fine if you're in a caravan but not a polyester tent!

That's fine.  Just thought by your first post you weren't looking for a bells & whistles site when you mentioned you weren't bothered about stuff for the kids.  Sounds like the coastal, large, busy sites may suit you better then.

I'm sure the site is safe with the fires.  They let you use braziers.

Large coastal busy sites are my idea of camping hell! Inland is fine by us. Lots of the sites away from the coast which look nice are adults only unfortunately. We'll be off site a lot so as long as its got decent and adequately provisioned toilet/shower facilities and washing up we'll be ok. Worries me when reviews say there's only 2 or 3 toilets - in August high season!

Slightly further west, but this may suit you.

We recently stopped at Moorhouse farm for a night (the place Del mentions) and I thought it was a nice little campsite. Also, Kilve beach would be a great place to take the kids.

Northam farm is fine their entertainment facility ( the seagull) is approx 10 mins walk from the site.
I have stayed there several times.
The only downside I found with Brean is that it is very windy at times.

We stayed at Northam Farm about 3 yrs ago in august. The site itself was nice, toilets were very clean and plenty of showers. Personally for us it was too big a site, spacing between tents was an issue and they didn't seem to mind groups of tents setting up their own mini camp with windbreaks a plenty and partying till late in the night.
It's not a site I would be returning to for these reasons but I can see why some people like it. Don't get me wrong, we are a family with kids so I understand what kids can be like but we prefer a slightly smaller site with better enforced rules.

Reading this back I sound like an old grump! Lol! I'm not really, I promise.

Another vote here for Moorhouse Campsite.
Great location, close to Weston, and Minehead. Inland rural quiet, close enough to walk to the village pub. Large field for ball games, behind the tent field.

Toilets and showers are great. They have got the normal shower block,(clean and warm), but also 2 fabulous wet room showers. They cost 50p/£1 a go when we went, can't quite remember, but worth every penny. Huge, very clean, hot and powerful. I would go again just to use them !
