I find these are often the worst sites. Not taking bookings is always couched in terms of it being a relaxed site but what it really means is a peak times they can pack them in to make the most money. I have just returned from Cloud Farm in North Devon which was overcrowded and ended up pitching on a steep slope so that the kids slid out of their bedrooms and we had to zip up the bedrooms to keep them in at night. They also charged £1 for pint of milk and £ 12.50 for 500g gas canister which I have ordered online at £6.95 now I don't mind being charged a bit extra but this is just greedy!

Have your say by submitting a site review to forewarn the others if you have not already done so please.
When I go on holiday, I would like to plan my itinerary in advance, knowing exactly where I am staying and which route to take etc...
Therefore, I do not go to sites that do not accept bookings or do not have e-mails as I like to have written confirmation for my bookings.

Hi DK
I have submitted a review and that is definitely the my last time using a no book site. Maybe its my age but I can't deal with all the uncertainty!
I think you have a point, it's the same at Scotts Farm in West Wittering, Lets say the clientele leaves a lot to be desired, shame as the location is superb.

We have booked a site which did not ask for written confirmation, nor a deposit. Anyway, we visited it last year, just for a browse, and it is the most idyllic, views across the valley to a viaduct, in the Forest of Bowland and very much a "relaxed site" that is not overcrowded. So, they do exist.

North Morte Farm in north Devon does not take bookings for tents. However they don't just keep packing more and more tents in. When they have reached their capacity, they put up a 'Campsite Full' sign.
Its a great site, no set pitches, fantastic viwes and it does not get over crowded, but, and this is a huge BUT! If you have travelled for hours to get there on a weekend, you stand a very high chance of being turned away. And they really do turn you away, no amount of tears and pleading will work! (we've tried!!)
There are obvious lack of admin benefits for the site, but I can't really see any benefits for the camper if a site won't take a booking.
Cloud Farm is in a stunning location and unfortunately they have capitalised on this by charging a fortune and packing them in (plus doing the cream teas). We enquired about going there in March (yes, March!) and it was still over £25.00 a night which we refused to pay.
Just typical of the tourist hot spots I'm afraid, you are right to steer clear. Shame for the true locals in the area though that appreciate the tourist ££.
Yup with you on Cloud farm. We made a big mistake camping there once, never again. it was hell & some of the people there were too. I left a review.

We've just returned from Cloud Farm and absolutely loved it! We didn't arrive till Sunday so there was plenty of space along the river which is flat. Didn't really need to buy anything much at the shop either.
We found the owners to be helpful. There's only three of us so we payed £20 a night which we did think was quite expensive. Shame that others have had different experiences.
Completely agree about Scotts Farm. The most rowdy place we've ever camped at. Would definitely not return there.
Hi all, just caught up on your comments. It is interesting to see that I am not the only one who would not return to Cloud Farm. I glad to see there are plenty of campsites that offer a great service. I would just like Cloud Farm to get the message that they can't just rely on their location - a camp site needs provide appropriate and adequate facilities as well. I for one don't like being taken advantage of. Thanks for all your comments.
