We still haven't booked our main summer holiday and after scouring what's left of all the family friendly coastal sites down south I have found myself considering parkdeans southerness holiday park in Scotland. Anyone been there? It seems to be ticking all the boxes with the pool and beach and a very reasonable price but slightly worried about the weather and things to do in the area. We have 3 boys aged between 6-9 and just want a fun but relaxing holiday!

I haven't been to that exact area so I can only comment generally. The Southerness end of Dumfries & Galloway is perhaps not the most exciting end of the country. It lacks the rugged grandeur of the West coast, the mountains of the highlands, and the softer gentler landscapes of the borders and east coast. It also lacks all the the lake district has to offer and it is just across the Solway firth - but at least there would be fewer people.

You would have the options of visiting Dumfries, Gretna Green, Carlisle etc.. but it seems to me like going to going to Scotland without actually seeing it.

A for the weather, the west is wetter than the east and you may also have some trouble with midgies (although I haven't had much trouble myself).

Two drifters off to see the world.

I'm tired of reality, so I'm off to look for a good fantasy.

Only been in a static there and loved it, so did the kids, at the time they were about your kids age (now 15 & 17), surrounding are you have Mabie Farm Park, we all thought it was best farm park we had been to, also Wildlife centre in Kircudbright is worth a visit, Caeverlock Castle is a ruin of a castle but lovely to be able to wander around it, we had our own battle with pretend swords with kids using imagination etc.

We have been twice and have been lucky with the weather.

Been to southerness twice, it is a good site but it depends on what you are looking for has the usual amusements, small soft play, got a reasonable size pool with a flume but its a bit of a strange 1 out 1 in entry system we waited for 40 mins at easter, u cant book a time slot!  Great beach access altho its not sandy, and u can walk along to the lighthouse at Southerness when tide out!

Its Perhaps not the best located to get the best out of the area its a bit far along, what about Brighouse bay or Auchenlarie they are more central, however if you don't mind a wee bit of driving there is loads & loads of various places to visit in the area, there is farm parks, chocolate factories, ice cream factories..castles galore!

Overall although i would probably go again it wouldn't be my 1st choice unless was a fabulous price! :-)
