Sherwood Forest is a very good site and if it's near you I would definitely give it a go.
If you have children and opt for the 'Riverside pitches' then you will be next to the play area and the river. If you want a quieter area then go the other end around the 'Lime Pitches' or 'Beech Pitches'
If you go for a weekend they let you stay from midday Friday through to 7pm Sunday. Wish more campsites would do this. They also have an excellent camp shop with very good prices if you need any camping goods.
If you look at my gallery images they were both taken at Sherwood Forest recently.
It may be further than you want to travel but Exe Valley nr Dulverton, Somerset has the River Exe running through the campsite. It's adults only, has EHU and a great dog walk . You pitch by the river too!
The Forest Holidays sites (now known as "Camping in the Forest") are also good too. BUT, the charge for EHU is around £5 a night

Depends what you want regarding facilities. Leekworth site, Middleton in Teesdale. Flat field with brand new toilet/shower block. and river Tees running past site. Free fishing if you like that and nice walks. Lovely and peaceful, but so close to everything.
We love Dol-Llys campsite at Llanidloes Powys. EHU available about 200 yards from River Severn which runs through it It's a working farm also and about a 15 min inti Llanidloes.
Have a look at the CC Borrowdale, low Manesty site. In the woods and direct access to Derwentwater.

For a licence dated 1997 or later you must add together the plated max weight of the caravan and trailer, if the total is 3500 or less you can tow it. You may even tow a caravan with a MAM greater than the cars unladen mass the restriction was removed in 2013
Glenmore by Aviemore - Forestry Commission site in pine woods, by Loch More, good for canoeing etc. Or the sites on the east side of Loch Lomond - CCC site and a nearby Forestry Commission site. A million miles from a Haven-type site. From North Yorkshire, about 4 hours to Loch Lomond, you'd probably need a stopover to get to the Cairngorms.
