Hi everyone

Last year we decided to take the plunge and try camping... we only managed one local trip but really enjoyed and have been looking forward to more trips.

With our friends we have almost decided on River Dart, Dartmoor as our second trip and are almost ready to book for the end of July.

The reviews seems good and it looks like a fantastic place ... but what worries me is that if the weather is bad is there much else to do there??

Also is there enough to keep occupied our friends daughters (16,14 and 11) and our own daughter who is 6.

Finally .. are there any other sites you reccomend for us that are child+teenager friendly, night entertainment isnt a must but a bonus  oops should have mentioned we are from Pembrokeshire, West Wales.

Many thanks

Hi it's a lovely site with a huge outdoor assault course play area. There is also high rope. And kayaking. I don't believe there is entertainment but there is a games room and a tv room. Lots to do in surrounding area . Great site

Go now, before the kids get too cool to want to go on hols with their parents. If they're at all the active type, they'll simply love R Dart.

We put ours in shortie wetsuits and surf shoes after breakfast and hardly see them for the rest of the day. Lord knows what they get up to, but it's a really safe environment and they come back tired and happy.

The restaurant/bar is quite big, if a bit soul-less, and we've sometimes ended up in there of a wet, windy evening, playing board games and chatting over a beer or three.

It's worth taking a chance on the weather. Apart from, maybe, Woodlands - http://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/sites/reviews.asp?revid=3286 - I can't think of anywhere better for kids.

River Dart is fab for active children. You won't see your kids if they like nothing better than getting stuck in!

Woodlands is also a good alternative if River Dart is full (campsite next to a theme park) and you can go into the theme park when it's closed to the public.

It's a fab site and yes all kids should be occupied and happy there. I would be suprised if there is still availability at the end of July by now though - have you checked? We went 2 years ago and it was fully booked for school summer hols much earlier than now. You'll love it though.

Thanks so much for the replies ... will definately try booking for our first choice of River Dart although Woodlands looks a fab place and could very well be a contender when I tell our friends about it.

Kate no we havent booked yet  never thought they could be booked up so much in advance... shows how much we have to learn lol

Thanks again... shall let you know what we book

Hi just to let you know we have chosen, booked and paid for our first "proper" camping trip and we are going to .....

Woodlands !!!!

Although we first had our heart set on River Dart I think the theme park and the fact theres alot to do if the weather isnt on our side swayed us to Woodlands.

River Dart will definately be the venue at some point though as it does look a fab place.

So thanks to the person who suggested it  .... cant wait now, the countdown is on
