Hi, not long now and we are off to Carlyon Bay for 2 weeks. Does anyone have an day out recommendations either by train or car for this area. We will do the Eden Project but not sure what else. We are 2 adults and 2 children 6yrs and 9yrs. We would love some kind of boat trip and we love picnics!!

As much as i enjoyed the Eden project, i did feel a bit disappointed with it on a whole and our then 10 year old was bored to tears. It just wasnt what i expected.

We all enjoyed our trip to Dr Martins country and seeing what buildings were what. Polperro is such a lovely fishing village and the Sunday reenactment at Charlestown was really interesting. Another favorite was Mevigessay however, they have been badly effected by floods since our visit.

Didnt think much of Flambards - we got in using our tesco vouchers so didnt really cost much but was glad i hadnt paid the full costs as i didnt think it was worth it.

The Maritime Museum in Falmouth is very child friendly, hands on stuff for them to do. Plenty of boat trips from Falmouth too, including 'park and float'weather permitting.

We love that area around carlyon. It is well worth investing in a family National Trust card, you will then have a whole host of days out on your door step. All of these beautiful buildings have quizes and hunts around the garden for the children. You are also allowed to bring picnics.
Newquay is worth a visit, a little tacky, but you can have a nice stroll and there are some good shops.
The Camel Trail is an absolute must, this is an old railway path which runs to Padstow, you can bring your own bikes or hire them. Really nice things to do with children, whatever their ages.
You could take the train from st Austell to St ives or up to Plymouth.
Lots to do that wont break the bank and if the sun shines you will enjoy the campsite. Happy HOls

The Lost Gardens of Heligan aren't far away from Carlyon.  Ideal for a picnic!  And they do "bug walks" & "bee walks" ideal if your kiddies are into nature.

Haven't really come on here to answer your question as most of our days last year were spent at Gorran Haven beach (beautiful! About 25 mins in the car from Carlyon but worth it, it was our favourite of all the ones we tried).

No, I just wanted to say you have chosen well, we all (boys of 13, 11 & 7) absolutely loved Carlyon Bay, had a fab time there & it's our joint favourite campsite to date. Have a great hol!

Definitely good choice of campsite.
However with regard to the Eden project, it was worth seeing, but wouldn't rush back. Do not go on a wet day as we did, it was crammed.
