loooking for a family holiday camping, that takes large tents, child friendly, happy for either a holiday park with on site entertainment, or a basic site as long as theres things to do in local area. we dont have a car so would need to be easily located for public transport. near beach also, oh...and not to pricey!! is that to much to ask?? :) :) :)

anyone know of anything that might suit would be much appreciated - we've never been to devon - i hear its lovely :)

loads in north devon area, we always use watermouth valley

but i think stowford has a bit more to do and is generally a bigger site as the previous is a bit basic but very clean.

and lots of stuff in the local area, dinosaur park, the zoo is quite cool too actuallt. plus the beach at woolocombe is amazing, town of ilfracoombe is worth a wander round but the aquarium is not worth it imo unless its raining. barnstaple is nearby i could go on.

Being a Devonian, I love my county and agree that the beaches of the North are fantastic.  If you like quieter holiday and  wide, open, unspoilt sandy beaches head north to the area of Woolacombe, Croyde, Westward Ho! etc.  However, if you prefer a typical family "fun" holiday I believe the South coast offers more to do  in the area for families all within close proximity to each other.  The South coast beaches are not so attractive  as the North (in my opinion)and the area is busier but the Exmouth down to Dartmouth coastline offers lots to explore.  And you could do so easily with public transport.

Cofton Country Holidays near Dawlish is a popular site with families, you might want to give that one a look.

Whitehill park near Paignton would fit the bill, we've been a few times. Just enough "bells and whistles" to keep the kids happy yet quiet enough to have a peaceful, relaxing break. Goodrington sands just down the road with plenty going on including a water park. I can personally reccomend the homemade scrumpy from the cider farm just down the road too!

Would agree with Cofton. It is in a good location, when you don't have access to a car as It is good for bus and rail links. Also there is plenty to do within walking distance.
Whitehill is also a good site but would not be suitable, you would need a car as it is in the countryside.

I don't think Cofton comes in to the not too pricey bracket, nice site though.

We have stopped going since they started charging £5.25 a night for a dog.

I didn't look at the price to be honest.(and I fully agree the price of over a fiver for a dog is way steep!)   Think the area is well suited to someone without a car though.

I'm a Devonian too, and without a car you will really struggle with North Devon.

Without doubt, the beaches in North Devon are better, but there are some nice ones in South Devon as well.

Try Dawlish and Exmouth, particularly the sites around Dawlish Warren as the train stops there and it's a mainline to cornwall, so you won't even have to change.

You could try towards Paignton/Brixham, or how about Woodlands Theme park.  They have camping and if you book 2 nights it includes entrance to the park, which is pretty nice (although it's no Alton Towers).

As for North Devon, as said, anywhere around Woolacombe is probably best, as the beach is amazing and the town has all you will need.  Try Woolacombe Bay, as it has a good swimming pool if the weather isn't so good.

Or you could try Bude, I think strickly speaking it's in Cornwall, but its for loads of sites and good access.  Wooda Park is a favourite if your going to Bude.

I hope this helps.

What about Beverly Park in Paignton. They have Statics but also take camping, there's entertainment on site and very close to the main bus route, although you will have to walk up a steep hill. Close to Broadsands and Goodrinton sandy beaches, Quaywest water park, and Paignton Zoo . A great day out is the Round Robin , steam train from Paignton to Dartmouth then ferry up the River Dart to Totnes then bus back to Paignton. Hope this is a help.

Whitehill does have a bus stop right outside the site entrance. We really enjoyed our stay there a few years ago. We took the in laws motorhome and managed with buses throughout our stay.

Watermouth valley has a bus stop outside and a private beach. We also used the campsite next door for the clubhouse and there is also the Sawmill pub who do great food.

Loads to do in the area.

I just looked at Watermouth Valley for myself.   It looks really nice, and reasonably priced.

games room, so DS is catered for.  Lovely short walk to the harbour and shops by the looks of it, great beaches.     Next years holiday is sorted for me then

Big thanks to the OP, and replies.
