Sorry if I'm in the wrong section, or if this question has been asked previously, being a newbie, I'm just trying to find my way. I wondered if anyone had joined the caravan club, and if so, was it worth the money, and discounts you get if you book on their sites. First time caravan near, and haven't a clue. Any help would be welcomed. Thanks. ..Angela

Why not try out the van first and see how it goes before deciding17

Visit Llandrindod Wells! Great scenery, walks, cycling, red kites. Ideal for exploring Mid Wales.

I have a Swift Challenger as well and have been a member of the Caravan Club since 2003. Still got same van as so well made. Have visited some fantastic sites over the years with the family, mostly the main sites because they have excellent toilet/shower facilities, and a play area for kids. The sites, as far as I am concerned, are well managed, always tidy, clean. Wardens very friendly - not yet met a grumpy warden. Our favourite site is at Freshwater East, Nr Tenby (busy during school holidays but fantastic for easy walking to beach). Some sites allow non members so why not try before you decide. For myself I think it is good value for money.

Angela -

Much depends on the type of site that suits you best. CC sites are of a good quality and gererally quiet, (with one or two exceptions) you won't find clubs houses, bars, swimming pools, or any organised activities. Most take non-members at a nightly surcharge (after about 5 nights a year cheaper to join).

If you would like to try out the Search option for hte forums you will find a lot of postings on the topic.

<<< Have visited some fantastic sites over the years with the family, mostly the main sites because they have excellent toilet/shower facilities, and a play area for kids.  >>>

Unlike HelenJ47, we are members of the Caravan Club for exactly the opposite reasons, in that we use their small CL sites that have no toilets or showers, do not cater for kiddiewinkies and are generally out of the way on farms or country estates.

Both the main clubs have sites that cater for all tastes. and we have been members of both the main clubs for over 20 years now.
In that time we have had many different types of units and therefore what we want from a site has also changed over the years. Neither club is better than the other overall. Their just different, that's all. It will be up to you as to which one suits your tastes the best.

I am using 2 CC sites in the next 2 weeks, both full on sites and near to towns for some restaurants and pubs. Been a member for years and hope to continue. Use their red pennant insurance for euro jaunts and while not the cheapest it suits me.

the CL's are great and the insurance scheme is well worth it. Not sure if you can insure with them if you are not a member!
