Does anyone have any good advice for a camp site with easy public transport to Liverpool? Don't mind having to travel for 30 - 40 mins but really don't fancy taking mh to city centre!

The ones near Formby, Ainsdale or Southport are probably the easiest as Train line close by and goes into centre of Liverpool.

Delamere Forest has an hourly train service from the site into Chester, where there is a 15 minute frequency of trains into Liverpool. Might be worth a try, its a great site anyway.

There is Willowbank near Ainsdale which everybody seems to rate very highly. You would have to drive to the station and leave your car there.
The Caravan Club sites in Southport itself are both members only.

Although it is a while since I have been there is Abbey Farm near Ormskirk, which isn't too bad for travelling into Liverpool.   Again it would be a drive to a station and get a train.

A bit further afield is Riverside, which seems to have pulled its sock up since I was last there judging by the reviews. Bus stops outside site, into Southport and then and bus/train into Liverpool.

There is also one near Formby Point - which is very handy for Liverpool. Again you would need to get to the nearest train station.

We are not, to my knowledge, well served with campsites that have easy public access into the centre of Liverpool.

We stayed at Wirral Country Park (Caravan Club site), ideal for travelling into Liverpool. We caught the train - at the time the parking at the station was free but that was a couple of years ago. Great pub with food not too far away think it was called The Apple Dumpling or something like that.

We stayed at Abbey Farm a few years back at Ormskirk, short, cheap train trip into Liverpool.

Lyons Farm CL near Maghull is probably the nearest, it's ok, I think there is a bus stop nearby, don't know about trains.

Have a look at Parkfield Farm in Meols on the Wirral, Its only small and if I'm brutally honest, the loo's don't look too good. However, the owners are very nice, it only £15 a night inc EHU and you could walk to Meols train station in about 10 minutes. Trains from here will run direct into the city every 15 minutes during the day then every half hour after about 18.30. In addition to this it also has direct beach access and a very nice coarse fishery, (if thats your thing). Good restaurant within walking distance and also a pub/restaurant, again within walking distance.

The Wirral country park site at Thurstason is a bit more upmarket but there is nothing really within walking distance.

Hope this is helpful to you!!!!
