Helen, Check out the sea eagle hide on Mull. Also, suggest you look up all the different wildlife tour operators (including sea trips) beforehand and it is advisable to book early to avoid missing out. Some of the trips are full days, others shorter. Afraid you'll miss the puffins though there may be a few left on Lunga if you're there early August but there's plenty of other seabirds around and the seals are a great attraction at that time of year. Info on cetaceans can be had from the Hebridean Whale and Dolphin Trust on Main Street, Tobermory. Calgary Bay beach is fabulous and very popular. Worth seeing but if you'd like somewhere more secluded, there are a lot of other beautiful beaches - see Holiday Mull website - lots of other info there too. Tip for Iona - try to get to the Abbey by 11am - you'll be ahead of the bus trips - park at the Columba Centre in Fionnphort. There's a car park warden regularly checking the ferry terminal car park!!!!! You can get short trips to Staffa from both Iona and Fionnphort as well as Ulva Ferry. If you're coming over from Oban and then heading up to Fort William and or Skye, check out Calmac's Hopscotch/Island Rover tickets - might work out cheaper for you. If heading directly up to Arisaig or Mallaig, you could use Tobermory - Kilchoan (35mins, non-bookable). If good weather, allow two hours for a detour to Ardmurchan Lighthouse - spectacular views and possible whale sightings or for a beach go to Sanna Bay. From ferry terminal at Kilchoan to Mallaig allow two hours - first bit to Salen is an interesting road with some great views. If heading to the Fort, use Fishnish - Lochaline (15 mins, non-bookable) and head up to Corran (allow 50 minutes). Ferries from Ardgour (this side) on hour and half-hour; crossing 5 mins and £7.00 for car and all occupants - exact money, please!! Hope this helps!
