We hope to visit Legoland Windsor while visiting the London area, my children are 8 and 11, I am wondering what age group the Legoland resort  is aimed at.

Hi,

That is a pretty good age for both. It has a good mix of things. It is anything from 3 to 12. It is a good day out but very expensive for what you get. We are lucky that we live nearby and at the time we had a merlin card. Otherwise it would have been a one off treat. Be prepared for queues like all these places.

It was a while ago we last went but I am acting for a client who works there and they were saying it has got much better since I last went. Apparently the hotel is lovely.

I've got annual passes for Legoland so have been a few times this year already with my two kids - aged 5 & 3.
I would say that 11 is probably about the upper limit. Most of the rides are pretty tame - but the Dragon rollercoaster, log flume and river rapids are probably the most exciting.
It is really fun though, they'd probably like the driving school which my kids aren't old enough for and the new Atlantis ride is really good, and the 4D cinema is quite an experience.
The emphasis is more on family fun than "white knuckle" but there is loads to do - we still haven't done all the rides after several visits.
It is expensive for a one-off visit though, so I would suggest trading in some Tesco clubcard vouchers of looking for a kids go free ticket.
Hope you have fun if you do go - and if the sun ever comes out the water play area is fab.
I'm just remembering how much fun it is - checking my diary for a date to go back again!!!!

Legoland is VERY expensive if you pay at the gate on the day. Buy your tickets on-line in advance, or use Tesco vouchers.

Age 11 is pushing it a bit, unless your child really likes Lego. There is an awful lot of lego at Legoland!! There are some exciting fun rides, but not the white knuckle rides found at other theme parks. Thorpe Park, which is near, is the place to go for that.

We LOVE Legoland and try get down every year. We usually go for opening weekend or the weekend after though, which is usually in march as it coincides with our eldests birthday. We have found it cheaper to stay-and-play as ticket price is included. We usually stay in the cheapest hotel and more often than not it costs less than or pretty near to entry cost.

I agree that 11 might be at the upper level for enjoyment, although it also depends on maturity level. Our daughter is still a 'young' 8, still into dolls dressing up etc, compared to some of her peers who are already into clothes/doing their hair/mobile phones etc and wouldn't go near a doll.

I enjoy the rides, and there is a nice balance of kiddie/slightly older rides imo. If you can get tickets at a reasonable price I'd go for it. You won't regret it.

Many thanks for the replies, I will be using Tesco vouchers as looking on their Website it is very expensive, we will consider both Thorpe Park and Chessington in the future but living so close to Alton Towers we thought we would try something a little different.
