Hi

We are wanting to find a site suitable for a 8m motorhome that has train connections for Wembley Stadium.

We are members of the Camping And Caravanning Club and would prefer one of their sites if suitable.

Can anyone please advise?

I've had a quick look at some maps and train network maps and on the assumption you want to leave the motorhome on site, most C&CC sites around London are within walking distance of a station, though none are on the Chiltern Line which would take you direct to Wembley.

C&CC sites:
Walton site is 1.3 miles from Hersham station (for all these distances I just did a quick entry on a route planner to get a rough idea of distances - there might be a slightly quicker walking route if you look at it in detail)
Chertsey site is 1.2 miles from Chertsey station.
Horsley site is 1.1 miles from Horsley station.
For all these stations you would need to change at Clapham Junction for Wembley Central, or go through to Waterloo and then take the Jubilee Line to Wembley Park.

Theobalds Park site is 1.9 miles from Turkey Street
Hertford site is 1.2 miles from Hertford East.
These stations would take you into Liverpool Street where you would need to catch the Metropolitan Line to Wembley Park

There is a Certificated Site Slough Lossie Nursery which is 1.4 miles from Langley station. This would take you into Paddington where you would take the Bakerloo Line up to Wembley Central.

None of these are therefore ideal. The best railway line to try to get near is the Chiltern Line which takes you right to Wembley Stadium. The Caravan Club has a site called Wyatts Covert which is 1.3 miles from Denham station on that line. The nearest thing I can get to do with the C&CC is just a listed site (which as you may know is privately operated and just listed b the Club) called Highclere Farm which is 1.4 miles from Seer Green & Jordans station which is also on that line.

WOW!

Many thanks for all your effort.

I'll take a good look at your suggestions.

As we have youngish children we don't want to be walking too far after all the excitement of a Leeds Rhinos victory

I quite enjoyed it. I can sometimes spend hours researching a trip that I don't intend to do just for fun just to see what's possible.

By the way, I've just remembered Wyatts Covert is a CC Member Only site so you would have to join.

Good luck, it looks OK from their website and I see they mention getting to Wembley. Hope it's not too far to walk to the station, but I'm sure they will advise. Just had a look at Google satellite and if you wanted to drive to a station and park there doesn't seem to be much parking at Seer Green, and Beaconsfield has a multistory. Gerards Cross and Denham seem to be better bets in terms of size of car park but of course they're pretty much all laid out for cars.

For anyone who comes across this thread looking for camping in or near London for completeness I ought to mention the Crystal Palace and Abbey Wood Caravan Club sites. Both are open to non members and both a bit closer to public transport than the other sites mentioned, though I don't think either are any better for getting to Wembley which is what the original question was about. And both apparently are in the LEZ which might pose a problem for some.

Hi many thanks

I looked at a couple closer in and came across the LEZ which I had not heard of. It's not cheap, for our motorhome the charge is £100 per day!

£100 a day? Blimey, I thought Mablethorpe C&CC was a rip off but that takes the biscuit!

Coming soon to a campsite near you, Jake, Mrs Jake, Little legs, Bosdog the Doodle and Olly the Cavachon.

2014:

August: Scarborough, High Yedmandale. Not tenting though, using one of their lovely holiday homes!

No that's not the site charge. It's the LEZ, Low emissions zone charge which is in addition to the site fee!
