We spent a nice holiday in the area when our children were small. Didn't camp then, we had a cottage on the Somerset levels.

Don't know the site but despite being a committed wurzel crunching zider drinker from Summerzet meself I'd have to say it's not my favourite bit of coast. Not Somerset's greatest asset.
Huge beach, no sea, no real town. Much to see and do inland
though.

Completely agree.
Area is quite flat, desolate and barren looking. Sea the colour of mud. If you want nice beaches it is well worth spending the extra hour in the car and heading to Woolacombe, Croyde, Saunton, Westward Ho in North Devon. If you're not bothered by any of the above then it might be your cup of tea. Some people do like it.

Thanks for that, we really do want nice beaches and thought they may now be the best at that site! I am leaving this all a bit last minute so not sure what will be left now! We could still take our tent but we have bookes 2 nights in a traveloge (legoland stop off) on the way down to wherever we book and so wanted to avoid a car full of camping stuff and book a caravan or something similar this year, everything I look at seems to either have bad reviews or is very expensive.

I suppose if it's last minute and if you're not worried, a beach is a beach at the end of the day as long as you're not expecting pristine caribbean white sands and azure seas! Plenty of room on the beaches to play, big wide open spaces. Just a thought, have you looked at Ruda at Croyde? Croyde is a fab beach.

We spent a week there in the Easter holiday at the Haven site and we haven't really got anything positive to say. Not a great place. We saw the Safari tents, right next the the site hire shop, behind the main entertainment complex and next to a site road - not a nice little secluded spot you might expect. Didn't look like you get much privacy either. In terms of the general area, you need to drive to other areas, which are more interesting, entertaining, pleasant, etc. We enjoyed visits to Cheddar and Weston-Super-Mare. There is a massive camping and caravan sales place on the road in to Burnham, which is worth a look. We won't be returning to Burnham on Sea. However, if you like miserable locals, browsing through endless 99p shops and shops full of cheap tat, you'll have a great time.

I agree, I prefer not to go to the coast than go to this area which is just 45 mins from us. Muddy coastline, bleak towns and kiss me quick shops aplenty. Ditto Minehead.
Definitely endorse further along toward Bude or else South Devon. Saunton Sands and Woolacombe are gorgeous beaches.
