Hi All.

Im new to the forum and just wanted to introduce myself!!

Went camping every year as kids and loved it..then got married, had kids and static caravan hols.  We did buy a tent but only used it once..Anyway a divorce later and jubilee weekend i borrowed the worlds worse tent and took the kids to Shell Island.

They LOVED it and have been nagging me ever since, so after many a trip to look at tents and the kids insisting our main holiday next year is in a tent and thanks to offers at Go Outdoors I am now the proud owner of a Zenobia 6!!

Have done a practice pitch in garden, Kind of, (small garden). with thanks to reading through on here.  The last tent I put up was a big old canvas one.(no ring and pins in them days).and we wont mention the one we took to Shell!!

Hoping to have a practice couple nights in few weeks, if anyone can suggest somewhere for a couple of days not to far from Birmingham, thats good with a couple of teenage boys, be much appreciated.

Have found out loads of useful information and things I'd forgotten on here, so decided to join, you never know maybe I could help someone else??  Any way Thank you to all those that post useful info, keep up the good work

Happy camping

Kim

Welcome to the forum. Kingsbury water park is a nice site. Near to water park and outdoor activity centre. Canal side pub with food in walking distance. Site itself quiet but things to do round and about.

You could try Tattershall Lakes in Lincolnshire. PLenty of watersports activities for the teenagers, plus a swimming pool, etc. Also not too far to Skegness if you fancy a day at the seaside!

Hello and welcome to the site.

We went to Conkers recently. Loads to do in the area. It is a C&CC site though so can be expensive if you are not a member but there are plenty of other sites in that area if you do a search.

Wolverley C&CC is good too, right beside the canal and pub, plenty of walks in the area, lovely little village down the hill, and Stourport on Severn nearby for a day out!

Ask them what they particularly liked about Shell Island, was it the seaside? If so, they are going to be a bit put out with an inland site. Just a thought... As is the weather.. even a lovely beach isn't good in torrential rain.

Mill Farm, Shipston on Stour just past Stratford
Very basic site.

Marton Rd Farm, Southam not far from Cov
Another basic site.

Umberslade Farm, Solihull
Not stayed at this site so can't really comment on it that much.

All these sites allow campfires

Hi

Thank you for the suggestions and I will look at those as well..I didnt realise there were so many sites so near to home.

Re what the boys enjoyed, as much as they loved the sand dunes etc at Shell Island, they havent nagged me to go back there, just to go camping...I think it was the whole sleeping in a tent experience, on previous caravanning holidays its back to van and the telly goes on and all the vans are parked pretty close together, I think what they loved was the space, and the whole sitting outside until bedtime and then sleeping in the tent. Just the whole experience...although the lack of luxuries may wear thin with them for a whole week, and we were lucky with the weather, we now have a tent and by god im going to use it  even if its only the odd weekend away!

They enjoy going to park and being outside, so as long as there is something/where to have a walk to I think we'll be ok
