The ferry from Mevagissey to Fowey is always good for a day out, and if you're lucky you might see some basking sharks or porpoises.

Gorran Haven is a lovely old fashioned fishing harbour. Nothing much there but character. Also the best fish & Chips in cornwall.

Caerhays or Porthluney beach is brilliant. (2 names one place)

Lost Gardens of Heligan of course.

We loved Charlestown. Lots of filmimg done there. Last time we were down there they were filming a Disney film.

Oo enjoy....I drove past pentewan sands everyday last week and it looks gorgeous!

Mevagissey is the local town and beautiful with tiny narrow streets and a cute harbour. Fowey is also lovely, The seal santuary at gleek (I think it was) is about an hours drive but we combined with a trip to lands end and it was well worth it....tip...buy tickets in advance as greatly reduced! There is also the minnack theatre down lands end way.! dogs welcome at all 3.

Oh and we went to perranporth rather than Newquay on advice of the locals......a gorgeous beach! There is a gorgeous little beach if you head towards seaview international and when faced with it in front of you take the road to the right of the entrance and follow it, at the very bottom is a field to park in....£3 for the day and a stunning beach that you can walk out in sea for miles (ok exaggeration) without water going over the knee.

Lovely pub up the road,  (you'll have to drive though) less than 10 minutes drive.

Polgooth Inn.   Really nice food, outside seating but get there early - people usually queing up to get in!

http://www.polgoothinn.co.uk/

The pub in Pentewan Village has a beer garden across the road but they don't serve food outside, which we thought was a little odd.

I agree - loved Caerhays (Porthluney) - not too "touristy" and hence overcrowded!

Lost Gardens of Heligan is also imo better value for money (and cheaper ) than the Eden Project.

If you are taking your dog I find the following dog friendly places great :
Trebah gardens (maker sure you go at the beginning because you usually get free entry in the same week if you want to go back - which you will do ..)
Bodmin Jail
Tintagel Castle
Pendennis Castle
Carylon bay – great walk with dog although there are some building works its beautiful and very
Also love doing the Pentewan Trail cycle trail

Take the back road and visit Porthpean Beach (sheltered and sandy), go through the village heading towards the sea and you will find the road going up the hill).

Charlestown... loads of character...The Eagle Has Landed, The Oneiden Line, Poldark to name a few that have been filmed there.

The Rashleigh Pub in Charlestown serves a great carvery... plenty of outside tables too.

St Austell has a new(ish) shopping centre, loads of places to eat.

Truro...nice to visit.. look out for Malpas just off the roundabout before the Tesco superstore and nice gardens and parks and walks along the river. Lots of trees and shade too.

Mevagissey.. quaint old fishing village, with bags of character, lots of narrow streets to explore.

I grew up not far from Pentewan... (pronounced Penchewan) and a little sleepy hamlet, you'll pass it on the way through.

Fowey is also a nice little town to see, quaint too with narrow streets and lots of shops to browse.

Now if you want somewhere not many tourists visit, head for a place called Lerryn... it's a little village on the River Lerryn, a tributary of the River Fowey (head for Lostwithiel.. look for the signs)... stepping stones across the river, nice pub, walks along the river banks both sides and into the forest beyond. Free parking.Toilets. It's one of our favs spots... have even camped there in the woods many many moons ago (more than 30)... and of course even BBQ'd along the river bank... with a real camp fire.... Oh the memories

http://www.lerryn.net/gallery

Hope you'll have a lovely visit
