Anyone recommend a site where you could take a children's dinghy, for some safe sailing close to or directly from the site?

Lake district, South West, or North Wales preferred locations for this summer, but interested in elsewhere too.

Bala for sure and low ray national trust site on Windermere the site has direct access to the lake . There are two campsites on Bala with sailing clubs both get busy so you would need to book depending on when you wanted to go . I think the national trust has a site on coniston with access ? Not sure though .
Depending on how safe you want it Bala is perfect even if you don't get on the site next to the lake . Launching is good near the town safety boat around all day during summer as they do hire and lessons etc and it's shallow for a long way out . We take our Seakayaks to practice rolls rescues etc
Were off to Llangollen tomorrow for the week and may go to Bala to hire a boat as Mrs and daughter have just got in to sailing .

So could I buy a dingy and just sail it anywhere? Ive done a few hired canal boats in the past so know the basics.

Do I need a licence or insurance? What if I put a small outboard on it?

Thanks Everyone - Bala and Low Wray both look good. I think we're going to try Milarrochy Bay Camping and Caravanning Club Site on Loch Lomond this time, and try Bala and Low Wray in the future.

The Keswick site also sounds great, but we were a bit put off by some poor reviews of the washblocks.

The safety boat at Bala sounds very good. We're quite new to this dinghy sailing life, only starting in April, (though we've had plenty of practice at righting capsized boats in that time :-). Having a safety boat around is very re-assuring.

Slightly further south, but Fforest Fields has it's own lake, many visitors take their own dinghy's and kayaks, my son swims in there regularly when we're there.

Not in your ideal area but Slenningford Watermill near Ripon is a lovely site and you can launch dinghys/canoes directly form the "beach" on site.

My boys had a wonderful time there.

Another vote for Fforest Fields here.

I would say that Fforest Fields is very safe for children. Take a look at the reviews and check out the photos of the site and you'll get an idea of how large the lake is. It's on the campsite itself, so as soon as the children get cold you can be in the showers in no time at all to warm them up.

Be warned though.....as soon as you have them warm and dry, they want to go straight back in again

Considerably further, but Glenmore Forrest near Aviemore has all your looking for.

Glanllyn Lakeside Caravan & Camping Park near Bala has a large launching area, gently sloping into a shallow bay - safe for kids
