Hi all. Am a new member of the Camping and Caravanning Club and am looking at booking a break. We have a Vango Maritsa 700 which is 7.4 x 5.1m and after a bit of searching have found out a standard pitch is 9x5m. Am I going to have to book a jumbo pitch for the sake of the .1?? Or will I fit onto a standard and would the club be ok with this or is it site discretion? I'm an honest person and like to be up front but will 10cm make that much difference? What would others do? Or do you have a Maritsa and use C and CC Club sites and what do you do?

I think you should ring them as you will have to fit your vehicle on the pitch too.

pitches are actually 11 x 11 the tent must be 9 x 5 personally I wouldn't sweat it for the 10cm we have used slightly more than 5m with our tent and utility before and not had a problem

Generally I've found most booked pitches are roughly 10x10, some a bit bigger, some a bit smaller. Can't say I've ever seen a pitch that one of its dimensions is only 5 metres.

I mean that's pretty small, even my soulpad would struggle to fit on that pich, and its not a huge tent compared to some of the real giants.

I gave them a ring as I prefer to be upfront. The lady I spoke to was really nice but said she would have to speak to the owners and ring me back. So am waiting to hear back now. Thanks for the replies guys. Am hoping they're not going to fuss over 10cm lol. Guess we'll see!!

Karenina if you are a member of the C&CC club check out the CS (certified sites) as well. Generally they are much smaller (maximum of 5 caravans 5-10 tents) and run by local landowners or families. Facilities will vary dramatically from just a field to toilets, showers and electric (you can specify what you need when you search for sites on the C&CC website). Generally pitches will not be too restricted and I doubt if you will have any problems with the size of your tent. You can find some real gems and as long as you are not after an all singing site with lots of facilities and club houses etc they are great.

My top tip is to find a local CS close by and go and have a look and get a feel to see if it’s the kind of site that might work for you. The other plus point they are quite cheap. As an example we were in Canterbury last weekend. The campsite had showers, toilets and we had electric hook up for £15.00 night – which is not bad.   The site was set in an orchard and we had a whole section to ourselves and at one point the whole campsite!

You can now search for CS only sites on the camping and caravan club – this was removed earlier in the year but has been reinstated

Thanks for that...we are actually staying at one from Saturday for 6 nights that looks great. There is a particular site we were wanting to try for bank holiday and we are just waiting to hear back. Thanks for the advice though. Will definately check some more out though.
