I don't mind paying for the people or even a bit for the dog but I do object to paying extra for a tent above a certain size unless it won't fit on the pitch. For example, one site advertises that any tents measuring more than 5x5ft on an electric pitch will be charged extra. Why? The pitch is more than adequate for that size. It makes no mention of extra charges for vans which are often bigger than 5x5.

If a van is more than 5 metres wide, it must include an awning which has probably cost extra anyway. So charging for a tent that covers the same space, as the van and awning, makes sense.

No set pricing structure is fair on everyone, it is simply one of those things. From the parks point of view they should decide on their target market i.e. families/couples/solo travellers, and make it the most attractive for that group of people.

We include up to 4 people in our prices as we are a family park, we still get an awful lot of couples come and stay but not so many singles. I would expect an adult only site to only include 2 people.

As many people have said, work out what is best value for you and then decide.

The way I see it is that if it is a marked out pitch of say 8x10mtr then as long as everything fits on that area, i.e. car, caravan awning, tent, guys etc.. then it should be one price irrespective of the size of the caravan or tent. The only extras should be for occupants and EHU. If the pitches are unmarked then I can understand some sites charging on the size of the unit..

I think that like most people you find out what the total cost of your pitch will be per night and think if that fine for what your receiving. What I don't like is working how much your stay is going to be, then finding out the showers are to cost a fortune.

What about your gap for fire safety? If 2 tents are next to each other thats not good, also from a privacy point

Not sure, campers pay for facilities so why not visitors?

I've seen visitors using pools/showers etc. Should this be free?

Do they? My friends shower before they come visiting!

When we have guests, it is only to meet up, go for a walk and then maybe stay for a drink when we get back. They may possibly use the lav, but that hardly warrants the £2 pp that I've seen some sites charge.

I have no objection at all to the price being for two plus tent/vehicle, a fair base point to go on, and why should others who camp without children end up paying more if family prices (2 adults, 2 children) were the norm?

As a mother of five, I have always seen it that they're our kids, so we pay for them,

How nice to hear from a parent who accepts that - so many don't.

One site I've considered going to charges 50p pn for dogs but kids are free. How can a dog use more resources than a child?

Mind you, that site doesn't just charge 20p for a shower, but for washing up as well. It looks lovely, but won't be getting my custom.
