My son and his girlfriend have just come back from France where they spent a lot of time on naturist beaches.  They'd like to find somewhere nearby that they can visit to 'top up their tans' - preferably in the North of England.  I've had a look on the naturist campsites section, and there are three possibles, but does anyone know anything about them:

Valley Club, Harrogate
Tando, Newcastle
Candy Farm,

or even

Ribble Valley near Blackburn

I know it's not everyone's cup of tea but naturism appears to be growing in popularity amongst their age group and there have been a couple of TV programes about it.  Does anyonehave any first-hand information about these sites?  If anyone would prefer to email rather than add to the forum you can send replies to oldbean2010 at googlemail.com.

We went to Candy Farm for a weekend last year. It was my first experience of a naturist site and I felt VERY uncomfortable. I was ready to say 'never again', but I decided not to judge things by just the one experienceso I have been to two other sites since and absolutely loved them.

Candy Farm is very basic, (that didn't bother me) but I for one would not go back while it is under the same ownership and I only live 20 or so miles away.

Being serious now. If they want to go to a nice friendly welcoming site. Tell them to try Lakeside at Spilsby. It may be a bit further away than they planned, but it is the best one we have been to.

We have no experience of those you mention or any in the north but Tything barn is a nice interesting site in Pembrokeshire. Carbeil is also a good site in Devon. Good facilities although very small.

Acorns in Devon looks ok on the website but again I have no experience of it.

France really is the place to go for good Naturist sites. Euronat
euronat
Is one of the best and is the biggest. Located on the Atlantic coast just below the mouth of the Gironde estuary.

I saw your post the other day and was going to reply, but I have now done a review of Valley Club at Harrogate - I'm not sure if it's on the system as yet, though.

We have a caravan there, which we can use six months of the year, and though it's a no-frills site, it's a lovely place in the sunshine.  Your son and his girlfriend could have a day visit, by arrangement, or request to join and put a caravan on a pitch there.  Fees are £100 each person per year either as full or day members, plus £150 to put a caravan on a pitch.  This may have changed since we joined.  Day members can visit as much as they wish but not stay overnight, however, there is accommodation to rent (a small caravan or a small chalet) for £10 per accommodation per night and day members can take advantage of this if the accommodation is not booked.  There is a bar and clubhouse where there is electricity, and a large screen TV and drinks are available.  Meals are offered when there is a 'function' or when a lot of members are present.  Most of this is on my review.

They are a very friendly bunch - mostly older members, but a couple of young families - and there are vacant pitches at the moment.

I Didn't do a review for Candy Farm at the time. Is it too late to do one now?

That is fine, just make sure you put the dates as 2011, or whenever it was you visited.
