Byreside near Consett has a cycle track adjacent which looks flat but as it goes up/down the valley it's a doddle one way and a bit of a push the other but no real problem. It's a nice site too.

We have scoured maps and google earth looking for camp sites near to cycle paths in the norht east and Byreside is the only one we have come up with and visited, there are a lot of easy paths, you can cycle down into newcastle or to the metro centre, also up to and through consett and out towards Durham, there is a lovely farmshop and cafe on that route (fantastic lunches) i would highly reccomend it.

We have also stayed at Finchale Abbey, Durham, you can cycle from this site about 2 miles up road and down past the prison into Durham about 5 miles in all.
