Not posted for a while. But I've been lurking lol.
Anyway. I need the help of you kind people to help settle a kind of online argument with someone. A few months ago we had the displeasure to spend a few nights at a well known Haven site Nr Scarborough. These very kind people at the site locked the toilets from 8pm to 8am.
Has anyone else been to a site where this happens.
I'm not talking about a locked door with key entry. Simply physically being locked out and having to walk over a crowded unlit site onto the next field to enter a 6 digit alpha numeric code after sever sherbets.
I know I've never known this before.

I've never known this before either- sounds like bad craic to me. I am always eternally grateful that I don't have kids and therefore do not need to frequent such sites.
Never had that happen but have had the lovely smell of freshly cooked rice from the toilet blocks and women smoking while waiting for their electric kettle to boil in the same toilet block obviously didn't want to pay the extra for ehu when there are sockets in the toilet block.
They did this at a site(I think it was Haven)in Mablethorpe we stopped at yrs ago. All the campers/caravanners were given a key tho. The reason given was that the toilet block was on the way back from the entertainment to the static caravans & late night revellers would stop on the way back to the statics & use the bogs in a somewhat unhygenic way.

I'd never heard of locking toilets at that time of night till you posted Dave....Yes I've seen locked toilets.. but campers were given a key or access code to get in...Its a basic need to relieve oneself when needed...Not nice to find the toilets near at hand locked with a longer than planned walk to ones further away...They (the site) must have had a good reason for locking the toilet on your field...But should have given notice of such when booking...
I have seen security guards posted at the toilet block on a big commercial site to stop folk vandalizing the place during the day....But they were left unattended during the night at the mercy of the wee neds with their ink markers etc....Which says a lot about the custom this place was attracting....
Jelboy.

They did this every night then, not just on one occasion? I've never come across that before. It doesn't seem to make sense. Why lock one block and make everyone walk to the next field, especially at night in the dark? Very strange.

ewwwwwww yukky yukk yuk
thats so gross
OP, ive read somewhere else that the toliets were locked at 8pm to keep out 'undesirables', seriously what is camping coming too, when you cant go to the toilet when you need to, hope they list the services as NOT 24 hours
have been to a couple where they were locked. We were warned in advance and given a key for one site and a code for another. ( code was changed weekly which caused a few probs LOL)
Not sure why the coded one did it but the key site was near a beach and once they locked th office at 5pm they locked the toilets. This meant only campers could access the showers and toilets, not people from the beach who wanted to shower off sand etc

Campers do it in the mud!
Hubby says we can't camp as much this yr mmm we'll see!!
camped in 2009= 27nights
Booked for 2010 = 30 nights.
Been to several sites where the toilet/shower block had key only entry but never to a site where you were locked out for 12 hours

Everything has been said before, but since nobody ever listens we have to keep going back and saying it all over again and again and again

Well from what I can gather this is standard practice at some Haven sites. I did fill in their questionnaire at the end of our stay and included a seperate sheet of paper listing why I answered the questions the way I did. I also emailed Haven's complaints department to no avail. It simply seems as though they like to take your money and forget about you. Needless to say we won't be returning to this site ever again.

Mmm, could it possiby be that the site staff have cleaned them in the evening and don't want them to be used until the next day? Crafty, laziness really but it would be one less cleaning job.
Great Birchwood near Lytham locked the block on the tent field at around 9pm I think, but it was only a short walk further to the toliets in the main building.
