On a lake district site, we arrived to a virtually empty field without marked pitches. We pitched on a lovely level spot, away from the footpath and showers.
All was fine until the Friday. We were out all day, and got back at about 9 to find we couldn't get the car anywhere near our pitch and tents were so packed in that the guy ropes were overlapping. It was a struggle to walk between the tents.
On the Sunday, they all packed up and disappeared, leaving us in glorious isolation once more.
I made a mental note never to go there again unless it was for week nights only. I get paranoid about fire when there is no 6m gap.
