Example of a conversation I had a few weeks ago:-

Him; "Where do you recommend I pitch my tent"?
Me; "As we have had a great deal of rain and with more to come I suggest you pitch up in the higher camp field, where although it may be soggy, there is no danger of you being flooded out as the area drains quite well".
Him; "but I prefer to be in the other area".
Me; "well ok, but do not be tempted to pitch in the low sheltered dips, due to us being at the foot of a big hill, the water will naturally find the lowest spot and fill it, and you will find yourself having to bale out".
Him; "Great thanks".

As I was on the late shift, and the rain was really coming down, I had a look to see where he had eventually pitched up.........in a blooming dip, exactly where I suggested NOT to go.

Next morning, as I was on earlies, I went to see how he had fared over night as we had suffered more extreme rainfall. True enough, there he was baling his tent out with a cup. I asked if he wanted me to help him to move his tent, and received a load of verbal abuse about the situation he was in and that we should have not let him pitch up there.

I politely reminded him of our conversation and pointed to an area literally yards from where he had pitched which was nice and dry comparatively speaking.............he told me to go away in no uncertain terms.

Sometimes we just can't win, no matter how hard we try. Believe it or not, it is not just about the takings. It is NOT good for business if our customers are not happy, especially with websites like this where a bad review will take a long time to recover from.

You're right there 3 or 4 years ago a few of us went to a site which had a sloping field and, because there had been a lot of rain, the bottom of the field was like a swamp. The site has put posts across the field and blocked the bottom off with that red and white plastic tape. We then saw a woman, with two kids, arrive on site - she stopped, looked at the tape and proceeded to break the tape and drive to the bottom of the field. When she got out of the car, she sank in up to her ankles, and her car tyres had also sunk right in, so she couldn't drive away again.
It turned out that she hadn't booked, but just driven in without reporting to reception. However, she reckoned it was the campsite's fault for not telling her

Experience enables you to recognize a mistake when you make it again.
Everything has been said before, but since nobody ever listens we have to keep going back and saying it all over again and again and again
