After spending quite some time looking through the campsite search and reading through the reviews i am at a loss. We have a motorhome which isn't practical to move once we've parked up. We need to find a site that is accessable to durham city via public transport in order for us to attend a meeting. Think I may be clutching at straws but does such a place exist? Came across durham city boathouse but we are not members of the caravan club so no good, any ideas would be gratefully recieved?

thanks for that miss baritone had looked at strawberry hill but is that not on a really busy road? am a bit familiar with the area and the thought of crossing a busy dual carriageway put me off slightly or am i overreacting?
thanks vectratot, looked at that site also but read a review that said the park & ride was the other side of the A1, is it feasable to walk to it safely?
It is a little walk to the Park and Ride at Carrville, but on the A 690 over the motorway junction. However there is a bus from Sunderland to Durham which actually passes the site gate, and this is fairly regular.

IIRR there is a bus stop outside the CC site on the road into Durham. You could ring the site and they will tell you.

For a licence dated 1997 or later you must add together the plated max weight of the caravan and trailer, if the total is 3500 or less you can tow it. You may even tow a caravan with a MAM greater than the cars unladen mass the restriction was removed in 2013

you should have no prblem crossing the road outside strawberry hill.....its only a short stretch of dual and its not like the M1.
We were there in the summer.
i think that will be your nearerst site as we too wanted to be close to Durham, but had the car....although I woudl assume that even a taxi from here wont break the bank.
Whereabouts in Durham will you be going? Just being nosy, I love that city got very find of the place when my son was there, we used o stay at Baxterood farm CL and loved it but you need a car from there.
