I am sure you would be fine on most sites, Tigermouse goes on her own all over the place and seems to be fine, she would probably be a good person to advise you. I guess she may be along soon, she also has a blog.
I knew someone was talking about me, my ears were burning! lol
Yes it's true, I've been camping alone for over three years now and love it. I've been to many different sites, both large and small, sometimes I've been the only person there, but no matter where I've been I've never felt unsafe or threatened in any way, and I've always found other campers to be very friendly. As long as you don't go camping in an isolated field in the middle of nowhere you shouldn't have any problems - stick to proper campsites, especially those where the owners or wardens are there 24/7, and you'll be fine. If your chosen camp site has an out-of-hours phone number for any problems then put that in your mobile just as a precaution; if it would make you feel safer you could also get one of those personal alarms that emit an ear-splitting screech when activated but tbh I really don't think you would need one - I don't have one and have never felt the need for one.
Tbh, there's probably more chance of you getting knocked down while crossing a road than there is of anything bad happening to you on a camp site, so don't worry about what 'could' happen, it probably never will - just get out there and give solo camping a go, I don't think you'll regret it. My blog address is in my home page if you want some inspiration
