You might find alot of sites will not be open that late, you could ring the docks and ask if it's possible to park overnight.

If you're a member of the cc you could try rookesbury park. They have specific ferry pitches for late arrivals and early departures.

I don't think you would be allowed to over night on the ferry terminal, it is small and needed for very busy morning sailing traffic, however a phone call to them would confirm their policy.

Personally given the Island side can't be a long journey, I would exploit the lack of traffic arriving in Portsmouth at 10:00ish PM and push on towards home; what are we talking about, 4 hours?

As has been said the CC has Rooksbury Park quite near and then almost on route towards home they have Morn Hill nr Winchester.

I would be using the A34 for your journey north so suggest you could use one of the service stations on that road.

Granada at Sutton Scotney. They have a suitable area which is probably a charged for facility.

Tot Hill Services on the Newbury by-pass, has a lorry parking area.

Chieveley Services where the M4 crosses the A34 North of Newbury. I know they charge even for cars over a couple of hours.

Some details here:

http://motorwayservicesonline.co.uk/A34

I would suggest you do a Google of the parking and phone them to check on there policies.

We stayed at Green Barns Certificated Site Caravan Park 5 units only,  not too far off the Motorway  (M27 junction 11)  £10 a night with electric, flat pitches, some hardstanding and used mostly for overnighters setting off early for the ferryboats.

Campsite is straight off the main road and directly accross the road to a Pub/Resturant called 'Travellers Rest' which also has it's own Camping and Caravanning  Certificated Site, again with electric and hardstanding.

Both Green Barns and Traveller's Rest are on Church Road, Newtown, Fareham,Hampshire.

See the reviews on 'UKCampsite.co.uk listing.
