Wonderful site and amazing sunsets over towards Arran.
As for Culzean castle and grounds, you pay a bit to go into the grounds and a bit more to see the castle. But you can sneak into the grounds by taking the back road out of the site and walking. I'm not sure how much as we're members but had to show our cards at both places.
Good beaches. Galloway Forest park not too far away and great for cycling. Ayr not too far away and Girvan too.
Hi
If you are interested in the Culzean Castle CCC I would recommend Thomaston Farm CCC CS site. It's literally across the road from the CCC site but because it higher set higher up the hill, above the tree there are views-to-die for over the Firth of Clyde to the Ilse of Aran. The sunsets are INCREDIBLE. You can read my review of the site here - No 7

Owners Hugh and Fiona MacFadzean are a LOVELY couple and made us VERY welcome. That welcome included Hugh and their teenage sons coming out to help us set up when we were delayed and did not arrive until 9.00pm.
IMHO opinion BETTER than the CCC site and MUCH cheaper!!! We hope to return.
Another recommended area would be the Galloway region. Just across the border from England but lots of interesting places to visit and lots of lovely sites. I lived in that area for a couple of "gap" years in the mid-1970's and have returned many times since. Gentler landscape than further north but still lovely hill and coastal scenery.
My favourite sites would include:
New England Bay CC site - does take tents
Castle Point, Rockcliffe
Mossyard Camping and Caravanning Site
All of these are coastal sites.
There are lots of others too.
That reminds me I am must be due a return visit.
