We didn't think we were going to get away this year, so I have stayed away from this site. Didn't want to get jealous. But now it turns out we may well be able to go. So what I want to know, Is there a site like Fforest fields in the Lake district. We love FF but our friends want to try the lakes. There will be 2 families, us in a tent and our friends in a caravan. There will be 4 kids between 10 and 13. They won't want to go walking everyday so playing near or on the site is important, Streams lakes or forests preferable.

Any of you good people have any ideas?

Fisherground isn`t suitable for the OP as they, like the C&C in Eskdale, don`t accept caravans due to the roads in that area. Plus I`m a local, I used to love Fisherground, I wouldn`t even think of going there now during peak season or Bank Holidays, especially if we have some sunshine, as the ( to me ) basic facilities for the prices they charge, cannot cope with the amount of people they try to cram in.

Hill of Oaks is a nice site. Sits beside Lake Windermere, trees throughout the site, short drive into Bowness on Windermere. A few years since we were there but had a few lovely holidays there.

Have never been to Forest Fields so dont know what I'm comparing to, sorry.

Of those I have been to in the Lakes the nearest to Fforest Fields is Church Stile. But it's not THAT similar. Fforest Fields is unique and special.

Hi,we live in the Lake District and I agree with a previous review, Fisherground was an old favourite of ours but has been ruined as they cramp too may people in and charge a high fee.
We stayed at Lanefoot Farm in Thornthwaite, it is beautiful, quiet family setting, on a traditional very clean farm and very friendly owners and they allow campfires.
There is also Coniston Hall at Coniston which is located right next to the lake and within walking distance of the village ie pubs etc, they allow campfires in firepits/bbqs, we visited this last year on out way back from Thornthwaite and bumped into several locals we knew, thats when we knew it was a great campsite for families!
