There doesn't seem to be many sites listed on here for the Isle of Wight, any recommendations?
We need just basic site near beach, dogs allowed, two teenage boys need something to do (fishing) pub in walking distance thats about it. Any recommendations would be great use.

Having lived on the Island all my life! I would personally find a site on the west side of the Island (a bit quieter). Grange Farm Brighstone, is a very good site. It's right by the sea and the boys can fish off the shore. The village of Brighstone is a 10 minute walk from the site, where there is a small village pub. Other two sites i would recommend (not sure whether they accept dogs) are Compton Farm and Stoats farm campsite. Enjoy

We want to visit Isle of Wight, but the price of the ferry for such a short distance is staggering. We also looked at the special offers on but still too pricey even though the CC camp site itself was more than reasonably priced.

The most expensive stretch of water to cross, pounds per mile! It is very overpriced, but little you can do about it. I believe Tesco clubcard points can be used, worth a look. Many campsites will be able to offer you deals on the ferry. As Island residents and business' are able to buy books of tickets which are significantly less than tickets on offer at peak times.

Krazykamper as you say thats a fair trek and quite a bit of petrol. Can I ask if you did a stopover enroute. I have drove to London a few times over the years in one go. Never again..

Have a look at the camping and caravanning club site called Adgestone .
I think they hire bikes. You can cycle to sandown. They have a small pool.
