Was speaking to a small, family run site owner. He said they've had a nightmare start to their season. Usually by now things are well underway but due to the poor weather bookings have been almost nil. Add to the the cost of repairs and extra prep due to the weather things are taking their toll. A poor summer last year had already affected them. The bigger, commercial sites can probably absorb the losses, the small sites will struggle.

That's one reason I never cancel. If things carry on like this, there might soon be fewer sites to choose from. If I had to cancel, I would still pay.

I dare say it will get worse as the Easter cancellations come in for them. I've just looked at the metoffice app on my phone and it is showing snow for Harrogate area on Saturday, Skipton shows snow, Lincoln too.

Caravans and motorhomes may still make the trip but the tenters I fear will be postponing the start of the season.

There are not too many hardy campers at this time of year anyway. Last year was freakishly warm, and this year is freakishly cold, but in a normal year we do not see many tents until May.

Lets hope everyone can keep the heads above water (or snow)!!

Schools don't finish until Thursday round here, so many families wouldn't be going away before then.

Yep, was seeing on a site's facebook page they've had loads of cancellations for Easter even though the site is in a position where there has been no snow or bad weather.  Looks as though even the "cold" temperatures are putting people off.

Wouldn't stop me though, if anything I prefer it colder.  At least it's dry!!

It isn't just whether an intended site is in an area where there is snow, where people have to travel from will also determine whether a pitch has to be cancelled.

As long as we can safely get there, we're still going away.  It was cold last year, so better prepared this year - I don't mind cold, I don't like wet.

That's what I was going to say too. We had snow in Arran last year when we were there around Easter. And gales too.
Nothing like the snow they've had this year though.

What has a detrimental affect though is not just the weather but the cost of fuel to get to the destination so if it's too cold to get out and about there's no purpose in visiting therefore we may as well stay at home in comfort and save on the cost of petrol or diesel. This is the feeling portrayed by many who I have spoken to recently and to be quite frank, warm sunshine always brings out the best in people. So until this happens then we're all just getting further depressed including the site owners although I do think that they and farmers in general have had rather a daunting task over the past two years trying to make a decent living. All we can do is hope for a better summer ahead to get people out more which is exactly what these site owners need this year.

We go away in our caravan come snow rain or shine that way you see the beautiful parts of this wonderful country in all its splendour, we have just come back from a Easter break in the peak district, on arrival we were met with 8 foot snow drifts, but the owners of the site have cleared all the snow from around the site, yes it was cold outside but we were lovley and snug in our caravan, we had plenty of walks and the views were absolutely stunning. in this day and age with warm waterproof clothing and a wide range of cheap heaters for inside, theirs no excuse for cancelling, we should fully support our camp sites and if people are cancelling because its a bit to cold or wet they should be forced to pay, if you book a holiday to Spain and it was forecast rain would you get a refund, I don't think so, just giving my opinion
