We are planning to take our touring caravan from our home in Kent, to Woolacombe in Devon.

We are planning to take the more scenic A303 rather than the M4/M5.

Can anyone recommend a campsite that is quite close to the A303 on the Wiltshire/Somerset borders, with easy access road(s) which we all tend to look out for.

Also, as we are only planning a short stop of one or maybe two days, it would be handy if anyone knows of a campsite which is close (not necessarily walking distance) to a pub which sells food.

We found a great site last year on our way down to Cornwall, Long Hazel  at Sparkford Yeovil. It is just off the A303 only about 1 mile. you turn off at the rounderbout and straight into the village. walking distance is a very pub. large pitches and very clean toilets are very good etc. owners are very nice,we shall always use it as a break down south from Norfolk.

Where are you planning on "cutting up through" to get to Woolacombe?  You going to come up to junction 25 (Taunton) of the M5 and then down to junction 27 (Tiverton) and up the North Devon link road?

Not sure if it's suitable but look at Long Hazel Park campsite - it's literally right next door to the A303 at Sparkford.  Adult only though.  But it's really easy access and there is a pub about a 2 minute walk from the site in the village.  Ideal for a stop over but be aware of road noise due to it's proximity.

The Sparkford site would be the best for access and convenience. I looked at both of these a few days ago and the exit to and from the Ilminster site with a caravan is not good. Sparkford was bypassed when they duelled the A303 and is a pretty little village now. Pub lovely and the Haynes (Motor Manuals) Motor Museum is there too.
