The site at Warrington is actually on the fence line. I'll dig the link out and post it here. So yes you could actually camp and see all the action sat outside your tent.
We just booked camping at Keighley cougars rugby club, race passes site also good rail links to leeds to see start and Harrogate for a finish - site £15 per person a night- only asking for a 25% dep
One thing I haven't seen mentioned much on here are the road closures. People coming from out of the area may not be aware that the roads involved will be closed for a minimum of 6 to 8 hours ( and could be more) before the race comes through. So for instance the race passes through our village 11.45 to 12 ish on the Sunday, we have already been told the road will be closed from 5am. Some extreme forward planning will be required to get from campsite to where you want to watch the race, unless you book a site actually on the route, especially in more remote areas where there is only one road.

There's a naturist site within walking distance of the route, which still has a few available pitches. It has a shower block, clubhouse with French-themed meals that weekend, and plenty of lively company! See the UKCS entry for details. We'll be there that weekend - traffic closure and all!
Appologies from the start...
I have no interest in the T.D F at all but booked a site near York for the week before leaving on the friday so not there for the actual event, (didn't realise it was the
T.D F) can't change it as both got this week off work.
My question is so you think it will affect us getting out and about and enjoying the area, will there be many people there before the event do you think?

Don't forget to leave a review of the campsites you have visited this year or last!
Some may be interested to know the Bolton Abbey Estate have said they will be opening a temporary campsite for the Tour. No idea of pricing as I haven't looked but I doubt it will be cheap.

We are off to see the Tour going through Harrogate. Can't wait. Have booked into "Le Campsite Harrogate" (the people who run it have even been to Italy to learn how to make pizzas and have just built their own pizza oven for the event!) Will save us having to cook :-) Passed through Harrogate on the way to the Lakes last weekend and saw the 27,000 little knitted jerseys hung around the Town as bunting. Seriously cute!! Go Harrogate, see you in a week :-)

be glad when it is all over and done with....all the roads around sheffield have been dug up and redone..with some idiot closing the only access road on to our estate from 7pm to 7am for 2 weeks and wondered why people were not happy.....ive had to book the day off work for Sunday due to all the roads being closed and would be a nightmare to get to....im not really a grumpy git but wish they would go on their bike ride somewhere else...

Maybe they should have the Tour over here every year. You know, have a different route each year - at least that way you get the roads repaired..............
Seriously, these guys are professionals, la creme de la creme, yet we spend millions improving the surfaces for them! The rest of us plebs who cycle as a hobby or to keep fit (and actually have to PAY for the roads)- and are not as `accomplished` as the `pros`- well we can try and survive the potholes, sunken grates and abysmal surfaces. We obviously don`t count.
