Hi

We are thinking of doing a 2 night camping trip over the may bank holiday sat sun night. We are looking for a campsite that is no more than 2hrs away from Epsom in Surrey. We will have 3 dogs who have never camped before so ideally looking for somewhere that we can pitch away from others in case the dogs bark.
We will have 2 kiddies with us too so having a few basic facilities for them would be great too.

We are on a budget so the cheaper the better. Not asking for much am I?

Thank you

Norden Farm Corfe Castle fits the bill. Local walks off site. Childs playground and animals - mini zoo. Reasonable charges. dogs go free. dog showers. steam train into swanage. castle for the kids.

The kids may even get to see some calves being born.

Had a look but its a long way for two nights, they also only accept bookings for 3 nights over bank holidays.

We have booked nether gong and I am so excited. This is our first time with dogs, is there a list of essentials to take when camping with the dogs?

Hey, can't recommend a site in your area but just wanted to say this is what we take when we go camping with our  2 dogs.  They have their own "camping box" which is one of those big plastic storage boxes with a clickable lid.  We take:

Dog poo bags (we buy a roll of "swing bin" liners from supermarket),  short dog leads, extendable dog leads, spare collar per dog  (they have broken collars before when we've been away), dog tethers for on site  ( a must!!), windbreak (helps block out the view and stop barking), dog towels for wet days, dog coats for even wetter days, dog food bowls, fork for dog food, dog beds, tennis balls, dog toys, dog treats, I always take a pack or Piritol anti allergy tablets aswell (dog got stung once and had reaction).

I also research before we go, on dog friendly pubs with beer gardens in the campsite area!

Thank you

The campsite we are going to is very spaced out, they are a 25 acre site and only allow 20 tents. The owner has been fab and has said we can pitch well away from others if we are concerned about the dogs disturbing others. They have also said that they don't mind dogs being off the lead on the campsite as its so vast. We will have the youngest on a lead as she is fairly new to our family and I don't know if I trust her to come back. We will have tethers for them as well so we don't need to worry when cooking etc.

The owner has told us about dog friendly beaches near by so will research dog friendly pubs in the area. Never thought I'd be this excited at taking dogs camping. I'm just worried they will bark all night at the zips rattling etc in the wind!

That sounds a perfect site for dogs.   I would worry about all dogs being off the lead though,  I prefer to have a specific area to exercise them myself or could be chaos!

You'll probably find your dogs will be so exhausted camping that they won't make a sound at night - our 2 are better behaved away from home and are quiet as mice during the night.

They limit the number of dogs on the site so they are not overrun by them. It's sounds bliss, they allow campfires and have a frog pond for the kids to go pond dipping in. They allow the kids to collect plums and damsons as well.

Only away for 2 nights to see how it goes. Will be our only camping trip this year as we are going to America for 3 and a half weeks in August.

Sounds lovely, hope you have a great time. Our dog loves camping, and as chelseagirl says, is so exhausted from all the fresh air that he is better behaved than he is at home!

Chelseagirl, just a quick question on the piritol tablets - can you just buy these or do you get them from the vet? Archie had an allergic reaction last year when we were away, resulting in us having to find a vet. It hasn't happened since but it might be useful to have something with us.

I buy them from the chemist.    Once we were in Cornwall and dog had allergic reaction to an insect bite and we dashed to a vets in St Austell -  the vet prescribed Piriton and it was in the same packaging as the human stuff off the shelf but at a higher price!   The ones I buy are "Piriton allergy" (Chlorphenamine maleate).  Always handy to have when camping.
