Hi Cropton Forest forestry commision site N West of Pickering may be a possibility, there's plenty of safe cycling/walking along the forest roads and it'll be just over an hour from Leeds (depending on the roundabout traffic A64 York). An alternative in the same area could be Rosedale Abbey camping & caravan park, there's a great ride/walk around the valley along the former iron stone railway and 2 pubs in the village one more or less outside the entrance to the site. There is also a Caravan Club site (The Howard) as you enter the village that is even closer to the pubs but it's minimum facility no toilet block or play area.
