Hi,
We're heading to Kent in July for 3 weeks and can't decide whether to opt for Tanner farm or Black horse farm.
Does anyone have a recommendation they could offer me, or any advice on which I should choose. We have never been to the south-east corner of England before so its difficult to decide what attractions are worth going to see and therefore where to position ourselves.
Thanks in advance

Either location is well suited to touring the south east. Visit Chatham Historic Dockyard, Dover Castle, the Timeball Tower and the Maritime Museum in Deal, A ride on the Ro,mney Hythe and Dymchurch Light Railway, see the Gorillas at Howletts or visit the wild life park at Port Lympne, Walk around Ramsgate harbour or sample the oysters at Whitstable. Loads of places to see and visit and on top of all that East Kent has the driest climate of the UK. Enjoy your trip.......Mick
I would say that you have more attractions inland- so Tanner farm. What sort of attractions do you like? You have Leeds Castle and Hever Castle that are worth a visit- both great for families. Museum of kent life, Bedgebury Pinetum and Bewl water if you are wanting more of an outside attraction with a few walks. Have been to most attractions as based a few miles away from Tanner.

Thanks Susperella.
We have 3 kids 14,12 and 9. We usually go for a walk on most days, walking along the coast, or through a woodland. We visit towns on not-so-good days or if its picturesque and I've come across it as part of research. The kids are easy pleased, and we will take them to some attractions during the course of the holiday.
My gut feeling is that I would like to visit Margate/ Ramsgate/ Broadstairs/ Deal/ Dover/ Folkestone/ Isle of Sheppey/ Whitstable/ Herne Bay/ Bexhill/ Hastings/ Canterbury/ Rochester, but that's just because I recognise the names, not because I think they are worth it.
I don't know much about away from the coast as it generally doesn't get mentioned too much, so I was shying away from it.
From the places you mentioned...
Hever has a jousting tournament when we are there, so that's maybe something to put in the pot.
Bedgebury and Bewl water are close to Tanner, so would definitely go there if we stayed at Tanner.
Both Bedgebury and Bewl are cheap days out and worth a visit with a picnic- great adventure playgrounds for the kids. The coast is approx an hour away- Camber is the nearest sandy beach- with the lovely town of Rye just down the road. Hastings has a bit more to see and is also an hour away.
We have stayed at both. Tanner Farm is tucked away down some quite small roads, and quite a long way from decent sized shops. They also require a deposit when you book.
But it is a lovely, spacious and peaceful location.
Black Horse Farm is a busy site, well placed for good transport links. Less spacious, but still peaceful.
I think your choice would depend on which was nearer to the places you want to visit.

I would heartily recommend Tanner Farm. Great walks direct from the site. Beautifully maintained site, peaceful location and spacious and quiet. Haven't been there for a while but they used to have farm animals for the children to watch and feed. Bewl and Bedgebury are great as is Leeds Castle. Also there are National Trust properties Scotney Castle, Sissinghurst and Bodiam Castle. There are lots of steam railways too -eg Kent & Sussex Steam Railway. You are also close to Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells which are worth a visit in themselves.
Black Horse is in a very different part of Kent with lots to do as detailed in other replies, but a busier site I believe.
Good luck choosing, but either way Kent and East Sussex are often overlooked as destinations. You will have lots to do and generally the weather is the best in the UK!
As you are going for 3 weeks it might be worthwhile considering splitting your stay between the two?
Do I want a spacious site, set in the country, but unfortunately away from some of the major attractions, or do I opt for location and sacrifice a bit of peace and quiet.
I guess I'll just have to opt for one and hope its the right decision. If theres enough things to do for 2 trips then I may go back to the other one next year.
