Hi,
Just got back from Fforest fields, wonderful as usual, little more boisterous, but put that down to weekenders arriving!

Has anyone found a campsite to equal FfF? My better half loves the washing facilities and drying room especially! kids love the pond!

For me it has to be the (usual) quietness!

Suggestions anyone? Still in wales?

thanks for help in advance!

Steve

FF's facilities are the best I have come across so far, therefore I too am interested to know if similar sites exist.

Hi sorry to hijack

We are looking at staying here in July but worried about pitching a tent on the all weather pitches...
The are two adults and 1 four year old..do you think it's a good area to amuse us all for a week?
Cheers

Totally! We've stayed for a week and more, lots of beautiful walks, take string and pen knife for making swords! A fabulous pond for jumping in and amazing facilities that I've yet to see in other campsites! (Drying room and shower/toilets are superb!)

Brecon isn't too far away (for camping essentials I've forgotten like usual, and great little toy shop) and check out the red kite feeding centre a few miles away in Rhayader (I think!)

I'm sure there's other places as immaculately kept and as well thought out, where are they?!

Enjoy,

Steve

I am always reading about Fforest Fields and would love to go! It is a little too far for us though. Maybe we may venture there next year, once I have a few more towing miles under my belt!

Sounds great!

1. Don't worry about pitching on AWP's, the only thing I would recommend if you have campbeds is take pringles lids, or similar, to put under the feet just to stop them rubbing on your ground sheet.

2. We only ever go for at least a week and if you get fed up of being onsite, which I'm sure your four year old won't, there are so many lovely places to visit. The National Showcaves, Tropical Butterfly visitor centre, the Elan Dams, as mentioned above the red kite feeding centre, Hay on Wye, just to name a few. Lovely riverside walk in Builth Wells, a nice lake and park in Llandrindod, Newtown and Rhayder are nice places for a walk around and shops.Oh and there's an small breeds and owls centre in Kington.

Guarantee you'll love it, but be warned if you buy your child a fishing net they probably won't want to go anywhere else from what I've seen of other young children there. My two were teenagers when we discovered Fforest Fields, my son just loves to meet up with friends, swim and Kayak in the lake and, which seems strange for a teenager, just sit and read and relax!

I had an AWP at FF for 6 nights in May, and it was great.

I always use a cheap tarp as a primary groundsheet, and it was dry when I packed it up. Normally it would be covered in mud and grass had I stayed on a grass pitch.

Thanks to Katie who advised me to use Pringle lids (I use plastic lids for pet food and metal lids from jars instead) to prevent furniture feet from digging.

She also advises not to wear sandals etc. when pitching the tent as they will pick up the pea gravels as one walks on them.

I used normal pegs, including Deltas on the AWP, and have requested the same pitch for my trip there next year.

As for things to do, it depends what floats one's boat. I loved the walks around the camp site, and the dog loved the ponds and lakes.

The site is quite level, and I loved cycling around the site with the dog running next to the bike on a lead.

It was very quiet and peaceful, just what I needed.

My experience of Nantcol, during school holidays, was not one of peace and quiet!! I believe it is much more tranquil at other times.

Consider Bwch Yn Uchaf near Bala. If you are willing to go outside Wales I rated Studfold (North Yorkshire) and Church Stile Farm (Lake District) highly (9/10 cf 10/10 for Fforest Fields).
