HI

Were pretty new to camping, only started last year, and we are thinking of taking our dogs with us 1 mongrel, 1 staffie. Both are very well behaved and get on well with people and other dogs.

we did a lot of research and have got spikes etc for when we go and had planned it so the dogs were never left alone, we thought we had everything covered until when we read the C&CC rules on dogs as i know some people can be funny about staffies, which in my opinion is unfair as its not the dog its the owners that are the problem in most cases, Anyway according to C&CC Staffies are banned from campsites by law?? has anyone heard of this or have any staffie owners had a problem with their dog being allowed on sites?

got to say was really looking forward to taking the dogs with us but am gutted if this is the case as obviously we wouldnt be able to take either dog as cant take 1 without the other.

Thanks

Kitty xxx

Many sites do ban Staffies (like you say, unfairly). Some ban other breeds such as GSD's and Rotties (and of course the 4 illegal breeds/types.)

There are plenty of sites that do accept any legal breed though, so it is just a case of checking/looking around.

other than c&cc sites where you say they ban them ,alternative sites may well allow them, most/all sites request you to have your animals under control at all times , so best bet is to ring the site where you may want to pitch up to see wether you can take them

Just realised your possible mistake/confusion.

Staffies are illegal in some countries. So ensure you are not getting confused by reading the C&CC advice for camping abroad with dogs.

As they do mention Staffs as being against the law as part of their foreign advice. So this could be the reason for you reading the "banned by law" comment.

As you are aware, they are legal here in the UK. But as per my last post, some sites do ban them.

There are plenty of sites that will welcome your dogs, don't worry and enjoy camping with your pooches.   Always check the camping conditions - there are some breed specific sites but we've just avoided the ones that don't welcome us and our 2 dopey German shepherds.

Hi

thanks for the fast responses I really appreciated them.

1man you may be right about it being sites abroad as when i tried to google the ban i couldnt find anything about it unless it mentioned abroad or C&CC.

Think like has been suggested by yourself, Lissabuff and Chelsea Girl Ill just contact the site we are thinking of going to and ask them directly that way will save any confusion and if they dont take staffies ill just strike tham off the list and move on as i know our dogs would  love camping.

Thanks everyone

Kitty xxxx

I've got friends who have a Staffie and regularly use C&CC sites without any problems.

Hi

We take our staffie with us everywhere. We are members of C&CC club and never had a problem staying on sites, believe me I wouldn't pay each year if I coulnd't take our staffie.

I'm on a seasonal pitch and 2 new arrivals have rotties. I love ALL dogs as it is the owner not the dog who must shoulder the blame for all the bad press etc. I think all dogs should be allowed on site BUT should be kept under total control. A couple of weeks ago I'd just closed the door of the awning when one of the rotties walked past. I dread to think what could have happened if it had got in. I'm not saying it would have attacked my little mongrel rescue dog but as he has a bad heart it could have been disastrous. The dogs are normally tethered but this one had obviously escaped so all I can say is PLEASE make sure your dog is secure as some dogs are frightened of other dogs and the result can be fatal.

I forgot to mention that a dog may want to play and run up to you and your dog if it's not on a lead, but as with my dog this could cause panic and with a heart condition the result could be nasty. It's no good saying 'he just wants to play and won't hurt' as it may be too late for your little friend.

over the years many many questions come up over our pets and caravan and camping.
We all love our well behaved lovable dogs but please remember other people do not think the same, as in the post above a rottie walking around the site uncontroled is enough to scare the life out of some people.
Also your inocent dog loves you, but its innstinct will be to protect you.
I have 2 dogs myself but will report to site owner any dogs not under control and would ask you to do the same

Hi,

Not sure where your location is, but we've just stayed on the C&CC certificated site at Millom RU Club in Cumbria.

We stayed with our friends who have 2 staffies and they were made very welcome. We had a drink in the club house and there were three local staffies in there.

Our friends are responsible dog owners. Dogs always on leads or spiked on site.
