Some suggestions:
The National Trust site at Langdale - beautiful location at the bottom of the Langdale valley, surrounded by huge peaks. Loads of walks direct from site and 3 brilliant pubs within 5/10 min walk. Well maintained, peaceful site, nice facilities - but you'd have to check about EHU as not sure. Quite remote, apart from the pubs and a tiny village or two nothing really close by. Though Ambleside is only about 7 miles away i think.
The Quiet Site at Ullswater - nice site, brill facilities, pretty sure it has some EHU and has it's own "pub" on site in an old converted barn. Lovely walk from site to Aira force waterfall, also the path around Ullswater is lovely (walk from Glenridding to Howtown and get the steamer back) or the walk up Place fell for stunning views. Only issue for us was the pitches, which were all "hardstanding" (pea gravel) - good for draining but you need an extra ground sheet to avoid damage to your tent, put me off staying again but loved the site. Good location, not too far off M6 for your travel time.
The CCC at Eskdale is always being recommended on here - looks lovely but never been myself, bit further for you to travel as West lakes.
You could also consider the area around Silverdale/ Arnside, not so far north as the lakes but such a lovely unspoiled part of the country - Gibraltar Farm campsite looks great and there's a top cafe just over the road for yummy food and amazing selction of cakes. Walks around Arnside knott and the coast. We stayed in a cottage nearby recently but will defo return to the area to camp.
