excellent site for Barbel fishing is Lucksall caravan park , near Hereford , site is adjacent to the river Wye , but I am afraid its about a 15 min drive into Hereford town centre , I have caught Barbel to 13lb and Chub to 7 lb from there
im not sure which part John....maybe Shropshire or Worcestershire area's. I am in Derbyshire so maybe anywhere within a 2hr drive.
thanks joecroft2 I will check that one out as there could be a bus route :)

You could try Lickhill
I've heard of barbel being caught there, but never caught any myself - I am only a casual angler though, so it might be I'm not good enough
Try Trippenkennett farm, near Ross on wye, Herefordshire. They have 2 well stocked pools with some very large fish !
Campsite is 20 minutes from ROss on wye or 30 mins to Monmouth, on the bus
I have been looking at lickhill for a few days but after looking at lucksall im now unsure as it looks lovely there and everything I need while dave is fishing.
thanks sammy101 I will have a look at that as well.

Stourport is just about a pleasant 20 minute walk along the riverbank from Lickhill, although I cheat and use my bike
We stayed in Stourport last year, although not camping, but found it a perfect base area for all sorts of activities including fishing for barbel on the Severn, though the warks avon and other rivers are close.
Get a BAA ticket and loads and loads of options are available.
Maver Larford is nearby, the river produces barbel here.
Got midlands safari park, Cadbury factory, stourport fun-fair nearby.
i have put barbel fishing on hold for a couple of weeks but will be trying lickhill manor.
in the meantime we are going to mill park in ilfracombe as they have a fishing lake and very cheap but best of all only a 15 min walk to the sea front......rock pools here i come :)
the old swan/wingfield arms caravan/camping site at Montford Bridge nr Shrewsbury, about a mile of the severn on site, pulled loads of barbel out most seem to be 7/8 pounders but have had a few low doubles out of there over the years, couple miles away from Shrewsbury
