Hi,

I'm after a decent campsite in the North Yorkshire area or perhaps the Lakes. It needs to allow dogs and also have a pub (preferably with good grub!) within walking distance. Any suggestions please? I have tried these search websites but when you tick the "PH" box it generally means a pub on site which I'm not really bothered about it being on site as long as it's not too far away.

Plus I would rather have a site recommended by someone who knows what they are talking about!!

Also I am thinking of joining the C and C Club - can anyone say whether this is worth it or not?

Many thanks

Nessy

The C & CC site at Boroughbridge is very nice, The Crown at Roecliffe serves excellent food.1/2 mile away There are many pubs in BBridge and an Indian Restaurant, the site is on the river Ure and there is plenty of walking in the area good for dogs. BBridge is about 3/4 mile it has lots of little shops, a late Spa and a big Morrisons, Harrogate, Knaresborough, Ripon, Fountains Abbey and Studley park and Newby Hall nearby also York 17 miles. We are with both clubs as it gives lots of choice and we especially like the cheap CS and CL sites. J x

Prospect Farm in Thornton Le Dale is one of our favourites. Small, quiet site right in the middle of the village. Couple of pubs within a minutes walk, both serving food. Cafe's and shops within the same walking distance and on a good bus route. Lots to do in the surrounding area.

Dogs allowed, but kept on leads on site. There is a dog walk route just outside the site.

N Yorks

Bainbridge Ings in Hawes is a lovely site and a 10 min walk into the town with lots of pubs, cafes, restaurants, a great fish n chip shop, The Wensleydale creamery (with cafe & cheese shop)... You can also walk to Hardraw Force (England`s largest single drop waterfall) in the grounds of the historic Green Dragon inn. Overall, nice site and fab location!

Never stayed myself but I think there are also a couple of sites in Swaledale (Muker has some nice traditional pubs and I think there are a few sites within walking distance on the Muker-Reeth road - Usher Gap is one of them). Area is fairly quiet/ remote though, depends what you want).

Lakes

Langdale NT site is amazing. Awesome views, very quiet, remote and 3 great pubs 5/10 min walk, others slightly further afield in local villages but walkable.

Eskdale C & CC  - lovely site, great local pubs are a short walk. Expensive if you are not a C &CC member as you pay an extra £7.20/ night to stay as a non member. Think this applies to all/most C&CC sites so if you join you only need to stay 6 nights to start saving on you £41 joining fee. They are well maintained sites with good facilities if that is important to you.

You beat me to it brin101. Would also recommend this site. The village of Osmotherly is so picturesque. The site is also top notch

Knight Stainforth near Settle is also a good site. There is a lovely pub which is roughly a 20 minute walk away. They allow dogs. There was even a horse in the beer garden one afternoon when we visited last summer. It's owner had been out riding and stopped for a bite to eat and a drink
