We stayed at Seacroft CC site in Cromer earlier this year. The speed at which some cars went towing caravans was very dangerous. It's a case of the 5mph rule doesn't apply to me.
The story in the link seems rather vague with very little information to go on so we can't speculate that a driver was exceeding the 5 mph. limit on the campsite. Reporters initially quite often get important details wrong so the incident may well have been at the campsite entrance on a busy road and not actually on the campsite itself but it's still sad news wherever it may be.
It appears he was struck by a 4x4 and pinned against a static caravan. Firemen had to use airbags to free him.
Thing is with these stories you never find out the full story but it does sound horrendous. I don't think you get that type of accident at 5mph
According to the local press the man who died was trapped UNDER a static van which had been hit by a car! Local Fire & Rescue personnel used air bags to lift the van and free him. Nowhere in any of the reports in this area does it mention a 4x4 or speed being involved.
At first I thought that this referred to the Turriff campsite, but actually it's a fairly remote one quite near to where I live. We heard the ambulance go through the village about that time and head on in the direction of the site.
I've never actually seen this site - it's way off the road, but I thought it was largely static with a few touring pitches.
None of the local papers seems to have any definite news about what actually happened, whether speed was a factor or not. The local Tuffiff paper is published on Thursday - perfaps it will have a few answers.
------------- Two drifters off to see the world.
I'm tired of reality, so I'm off to look for a good fantasy.
