Does anyone know of any caravan sites with or close to streams or shallow rivers nearby? Would ideally like mid wales, shrewsbury areas or failing that about 1 hr drive from Wolverhampton. My dog loves swimming / paddling and we would like to have a season pitch next year with this facility nearby? Thanks in advance.

An idyllic place is The Green Campsite at The Inn on the Green, Wentnor, Shropshire. It's a David Bellamy award winning place & very pretty. The pub grub is good too! The river Onny runs at the bottom of the site. A couple of miles away at Ratlinghope is The Bridges, with its own brewery, (this pub featured in The Green Green Grass). The food here is a bit more pricey, but again the Onny flows just outside & children paddle.
Next door to The Bridges is a youth hostel which also does camping. The Onny flows through the grounds & the kids paddle here too. The scenery of the Shropshire Hills really is stunning & unspoilt.
Seems funny writing about near home when we're out in France!
Have a good holiday wherever you choose.....just off to open a bottle of the local vin now!
Staying with Shropshire, there are some nice river/stream side sites further south too, such as near Bishops caste and clun way. Great walking country too, with the shropshire way and other routes through the hills.
But don't forget the down side to being near water is the midges/mozzies.

clitheroe camping and caravan site. River Ribble runs through it. Its also just a short walk into Clitheroe. Bit further than you may want to travel but C&C Club do do seasonal pitches .
Park Cliffe near Windermere is probably too far but it's a cracking site with a stream running through it. Our dogs loved it and then they also got to swim in the lakes too!
------------- Coming soon to a campsite near you, Jake, Mrs Jake, Little legs, Bosdog the Doodle and Olly the Cavachon.
2014:
August: Scarborough, High Yedmandale. Not tenting though, using one of their lovely holiday homes!
