I think you've hit the nail on the head.  Particularly in Cornwall in high season, the prices are on the steep side.  Parking in our car parks down here is expensive (even in low season!), eating out is no longer cheap.  Add in that and fuel costs for getting down here, the traffic nightmares and past weather = people staying closer to home.

I'm fortunate to live here, the region is our oyster & Cornwall is only 45 minutes away but we always holiday out of high season so can take advantage of off peak prices and low season special offers.

We are going down to the Lizard in a couple of weeks & yes it is a long tow of about 350mls, lot of money in fuel is expected, 5 van site is cheap, & yes we will get ripped off at car parks & other places but that is all over the country for most things you do or buy, most sites charge to much even if they do have a lot of facilities, if there are only two people & no kids it could be cheaper to encourage you to the sites, but instead they seam to want to charge for your dog, awning, electric, some sites are charging up to £3.00 per night for your dog? (do they feed, clean up or look after it for that I think not) electric is a rip off (you would have a job to use £1.50 a day let alone £3/4 per day, awnings should also be included in pitch fee, used or not, as on TV its rip off Britain?

I don't mind paying £1 - £1.50 a day per dog if there is a field provided, that is all I ask for on site for my dogs.

I saw a site the other day in Cornwall charging £3 a night per dog which was the same price per night for a child from 3-15 years of age - children use the facilities and electric, imagine how much electric a teenager on a laptop/watching telly would use. Crazy pricing.
