Hi guys can you help......wanted to take my caravan to the isle of white as i have heard some great reviews..! But the ferry seems so expensive it doubles the price of my holiday..?? Am i missing somthing, is there a knack.....????????????.
Don't forget to leave a review of the campsites you have visited this year or last!
Do a search on here as this comes up regularly stokes11. Altho' can't speak from experience it seems there's loads of offers on Isle of Wight ferries when you book a campsite. Sure someone will be along to help soon!

Wightlink take Tesco vouchers. Red Funnel do a 5 day crossing plus camp site from £147 and lots of sites do cheap inclusive crossings, including the 3 Haven sites, Whitecliff Holiday Park, Whitefield Forest and lots more.
As a general rule Red Funnel seem to be a bit cheaper than Whightlink. Also fares can vary quite a lot depending on the day of the week and time of day. No use to you if you aren't a member, but discounts are available through the C&CC. But you are quite right it does add quite a bit to the camping fee. It's worth going though if only once.
They've got a racket going only two companies so there hallways going.to.be expensive. Best bet is just to look out for promotions and offers as others have said.
It's worth the money but I would go with one of the smaller sites or maybe the C&CC club site at Adgestone. We stayed at Park Resorts Lower Hyde in Shanklin in 2011 and it was disgusting. Never again! Other than that the Island is beautiful and well worth the ferry fare. I've been going just about every year since I was a kid and I love it.
We used Tesco vouchers on wight link as you get £3 per £ in vouchers. Recommend Appuldurcombe holiday park if you want a site with pool and pub. Its also in a good location near to shanklin and ventnor. For a quieter site, whitefield forest is really nice. The c&cc site at adgestone is also good.
We've stayed at Appuldurcombe twice (and we've only been over twice!). We booked our ferry crossing directly through the campsite and managed to save a little bit (this was via Red Funnel - from Southampton to Cowes).
If you're flexible on the days you travel I believe it's cheaper. We travelled on a Sunday.
Also, as the ferry crossing is quite expensive I would recommend going for as long as you can - we stayed for 10 nights on the 2nd visit and I think we stayed for 2 weeks the first time.
There's lots to do and see and I know we'd still find things we didn't do if we went back next week!
