Well, I've finally said goodbye to the all inclusive hotels, goodbye to the warm waters of the gulf of mexico, cherio to New York City, and good riddance to Tenerife!! (didn't like it there)

I'VE PURCHASED A TENT!!!!!!!!!!!!!

So, Myself, the Better half, and the 14 (going on 40) year old Daughter will be taking our very first camping trip towards the end of September, I've purchased the Kalahari 8 as I liked the space it gives and the privacy the bedrooms offer, being at each end of the tent.

So my question to all you veteran campers is this.......where do you suggest we go? we would like a bit of evening entertainment, and the site MUST have  decent shower / toilet facilities

I don't mind how far i've got to drive from Northamptonshire, i'm a lover of Cornwall and Devon but really don't mind where you send me :-)

Welcome to UKCS and the world of camping. No doubt you'll get loads of suggestions for sites but you can do a bit of research for yourself by clicking the Camp Site Search button at the top of the page - select an area you fancy going to then on the left of the page you can refine your search by ticking the boxes for the various facilities and features you want on a site. You can then read the reviews for any sites which may interest you. Good luck, and I hope you have many great camping holidays with your new tent

There's a lovely site just outside of Tewkesbury called Croft Farm which we go to most years. There is a big lake which offer various watersports, a gym, and there is a bar which does have some entertainment too. Plenty of showers and also the site works on a keyfob system so is very secure. Very reasonably priced and it is the same price all the season through. Nice area and Cotswolds nearby too.

I should imagine that by the end of September most smaller sites will be winding down some what in terms of entertainment, possibly just offering it at weekends. I suggest you look more towards some of the bigger companies such as Haven etc if onsite entertainment is a major plus for you.

We often visit here for a late weekend trip away in September as it has the feel of a small campsite but has all the facilities of a bigger site.

How about Rivendale in the Peak Disrict, its nice site with good clean facilities, nice pitches on grass and it always seems to attract lots of people in tents. there is a nice bar on site and a restaurant too. Take bikes as The Tissington trail is a few hundred yards away with miles of cycling on offer. Also Carsington Water nearby with watersports on offer. Buxton and Ashbourne nearby and very good shopping in Derby. J x
