So it looks like the hubby and I are going to be able to get away just the two of us at the end of the month (grandparents will have the kids....a rare treat as they are 12, 9 and 6 and we have only ever had one night away so far)
I have spent ages studying the campsite reviews and am still clueless where we should go
Obviously with going as a couple without our kids, we would prefer an adult get away. Not necessarily a no kids site but one where we could tuck ourselves away in a quiet corner would be good. I would love somewhere with great views (we are spoilt with lovely views at home!) and hubby would like to be within walking distance of a pub ideally. As long as toilets are clean and showers are hot, we aren't too fussy about facilities. A relaxed site is more our style than precise rows of pitches. We would need to be within a couple of hours of home (we live in moray around mid way between Aberdeen and Inverness). I adore the highlands but we would still be in midge season and the critters love me and I hate them (allergic reaction). Some of the sites I looked at have midge eaters. How effective are they??
Any personal recommendations would be gratefully received

We absolutely love it here, if it was closer to home we would be there every weekend. No regimented rows, you are kind of pitched round a village green in the main part, right on the beach and it;'s like your own private beach as very few people use it, toilets always clean and showers warm, no shop onsite but Portsoy is about 5 minutes away with a small Co-Op and a fantastic ice cream shop.
Sorry have just re read your post and realised you have probably been here
------------- XVI yes?
As well is two words!
How does a sage know everything about everything? or does he? or does he just think he does?
Remember, if you buy something you bought it, not brought it.
I would keep to the east coast as you will be less bothered with midges.
Midge eaters can help but I have found you need to be pretty close to them to make any difference, they are a bit hit and miss IMHO.
2 hrs travelling time should give you a reasonable choice looking at reviews on here, hopefully someone will come along with a personal review.

Thank you We do visit Sandend quite regularly for beach trips and camped there a few years ago when we had the 'van. It is good to be reminded of the fab places that are on our doorstep though :)
Thanks for the comment on midge eaters VangoMan. It is useful to hear that they don't necessarily work perfectly although it is a shame that they don't! Lol!

Hi there, we are currently at Invercoe, Glencoe - we have been here for 13 nights, unfortunately we head home tomorrow - we cannot believe the lack of midgies compared to the same time last year. I have had about 6 bites, but usually look like I have chicken pox...
------------- Camping trips for 2013...
*May half term, 5 nights - Black Bull Caravan Park, Pickering
*July/August 13 nights - Invercoe, Scotland
*October half term 6 nights - Beech Croft Farm, Buxton
Oh that is interesting to hear! Are there just not many around currently die to weather conditions or are the midge eaters ( I think they have just recently installed some?) making the difference?
I hope you have enjoyed a wonderful trip in such a beautiful part of the world. Safe journey home tomorrow and I hope reality re entry isn't too painful.
