Hi, I'm looking for a site suitable for my SLIGHTLY elderly mother and her pal. I intend to deliver and set up my touring caravan for them but they holiday on their own for a few days. They can look after themselves but what is important for them are good toilet blocks they can be close to and site has to be in or on outskirts of a nice wee town with some shops that they can preferably walk to. Can anyone suggest somewhere within Scotland? Thanks

How far do you want to drive? I can think of loads.
A fab site that would totally suit the bill for them is the Montrose CC in the borders. Site is in the very lovely town. Lots of wee independent shops. Nice abbey ruins, river walk etc. May be a bit far being just over two hour drive from Ayrshire.
Another site is the one at Balloch (not been to it though). The Gart at Callandar is good but although in Callander may be a bit far to walk into its centre.
When I have an idea of distance I'll get my thinking cap on.
Thanks for that Feeblecat, Hoping to get somewhere within 1 1/2 hrs from Ayrshire but might go 2hrs. I'll have a look at your suggestions tho and thanks again, much appreciated
For a licence dated 1997 or later you must add together the plated max weight of the caravan and trailer, if the total is 3500 or less you can tow it. You may even tow a caravan with a MAM greater than the cars unladen mass the restriction was removed in 2013

Just returned from Melrose CC site and I think it would meet the needs of the OP.
Our pitch was about 10yards from the toilet block but could have got one right at the back of the toilet block.
It all depends what pitches are available on the day.
As others have said the town is a very short walk with shops, bars, restaurants etc.
The site was full but still quiet and never needed to queue for showers etc..and they are spotless.
Take a long aerial lead as TV hookup is included if you choose to go.

Vangoman, we seem to like and go to the same sites - feel free to recommend some more. Ps, did you get aerial pic?

Seems like that..lol its about 6 years or so since we were last at Gibson Park, it hasn't changed still well looked after.
We have just got back into caravanning after a break for a few years but did caravan for 30+ years prior to that so my recommendations would be out of date but if I come across any I will certainly post on hear.
Haven't bought the aerial yet, a friend of my sons thinks he has one that he does not use so will see.

Another vote for Moffat. We will be there for the Bank Holiday and I suppose you could call us elderly--80 and 76. So easy to walk into town and the Moffat Woollen Mill is next door with a good cafe.

Teeny..not sure if you have tried Woodlands Gardens Caravan Site..Lundin Links, Fife. Just up the road from where we live. Nice wee site..
Hi, no not tried this site. To my shame never camped in the East........unless you count the Cairngorms!
Agree Moffat C&CC site is ideally located though you ought to be aware that the toilet blocks are not the most modern if that's important as you mention. They're perfectly OK but a bit dated and holiday campish.
