It's not a holiday - it is my bi-annual visit to see my mum!

I'd rather go camping for a week to be honest, however, it is only a week once every 2 years!

We had to pay a deposit and then pay in full the balance 4 weeks before. That was The Laurels in Wadebridge Cornwall. We have never been before so just hope it is ok . Reviews say it is! Never questioned booking procedure - some do it this way some don't!!

Oh I knew you were off to see your Mum. Didn't realise you went as often, and thought it would be an exciting adventure for you, of interest to the rest of us who are unlikely to go. Anyhoo, be nice to see her and tell her all about your camping adventures

Intresting question and most answers are the same- pay in advance.

However i had found a site ( wont name it) and checked fees by email and was told 50% deposit due to late booking - less than 2 weeks - but something didn't feel right with the site and all the glowing reviews sure enough i find out that it is overcrowded and noisy not what i am looking for. I have found another site and the owners are happy for us to turn up no deposit or paying in full beforehand. My point is had i paid for the other site i would be stuck with going or not camping at all this year. I am happy to pay a deposit but i would want a refund if the site is not as described.

John

Apology for going off-topic in advance!

Mike,

She is pulling the "I am old, I don't get to live for much longer to see you ..." card, hence I need to go and pay her a visit every 2 years, either in Vancouver (her official residence), or Hong Kong where she has a base.

HK is more exciting than Vancouver IMHO.

And she does not approve of me going camping with the dog as she thinks it is "dangerous"!

She got a real hump with me last year when she discovered I went to Scotland for 2 weeks camping with the dog, and I would only spend a week in HK with her at a time!

Wow. Your Mum is a real citizen of the world then. Why do I get the feeling you'd rather be in Fforest Fields than either Vancouver or HK

There are a couple of BOB sites we visit where we pay 50% when booking and then balance 4-6wks in advance. Personally, I don't really like paying 50% at time of booking as its too inflexible for us, as sometimes life can get in the way of plans. I'd prefer to pay a smaller deposit but still pay balance 4-6wks in advance for early bookings as by then you are pretty sure you can make it, particularly as a caravanner with weather not being quite so important. If booking within 4 wks of holiday then you pay up front.   If we are fully paid up prior to arrival it cuts down checking in time so we can get on with setting up.

I was amazed when we started that deposits generally not required.

We booked a Haven campsite this year and of course we had to pay a deposit.

I am happy to pay deposits if I am booking well in advance or busy periods.

Why not make an offer to campers who wish to pay in full at the time of the bookings? Maybe £1/£2 per night discount
