If you want a noisy city centre drunken type camp, visit a noisy city centre type site! In other words do your research, research, research and look at reviews and you will get a feel whether a site is quiet or noisy.

Generally, any site will be busier at the weekend - does that mean they are necessarily rowdy? No. We do most of our camping at weekends due to work commitments and in 20 years of camping have rarely stayed at a rowdy site. There are always exceptions to any rule - that nice quiet site might be inundated with a group of eejits who just happen to have a few days off work midweek and fancy a party!

Yes, sites are usually busier at weekends and during the school holidays but you can still find quiet sites at these "peak" times.
Have to say I have used a variety of sites at all times and have never come across a "noisy, city centre drunken type camp" but I guess there is always the chance of camping alongside a tiny minority who can spoil a site or not respect the site rules.

Do plenty of research, be guided by the reviews of your fellow campers and pick a site that suits your needs.

Its not always easy to say. We went to the C at CC site in Keswick this summer a site that is well run. Its normally very peaceful. Had just got the FC up when the noise started. We had gone when the annual beer festival was on atthe local rugby club. Live grpups etc on until midnight including people coming back quite noisily. Just grinned and beared it.

The only times we have had what I would call unreasonable party type noise going on into the late evening is at the weekends on sites within say an hour of a large city, so in general I would agree with your thought.
