Hi!

Finally found a couple of bargains for October half term as we'd like to take the 4 kids away but torn between two,

Clacton on sea in Essex or camber sands in rye, Sussex?? We haven't been to either.... Any recommendations? Kids are 12,11,9 and 8, we love to explore, eat out and will hit beaches and coastal paths whatever the weather!

Help! Can't decide! :)

Camber sands is in the middle of nowhere, so Clacton has more going on. I assume you are looking at Park Resorts sites, so if Martello Beach is the Clacton one, there is plenty on site for the kids - I haven't been to the Camber site for over twenty years, so no idea what it's like now.

From Camber it's a car drive into Hastings for the smugglers adventure, aquarium and castle. Other way for Romney hythe and dymchurch railway, which takes you out to the old lighthouse at Dungeness ( which you can climb) and also stops at Dymchurch where there used to be a fair but might be too young for your children. Further away is Battle for its historic battleground.

Oh and there is a country park in Hastings too.

Not sure about Clacton but my mum Lives in hastings so know the area better

lauradee

just seen your other thread, and you're looking at a static? have stayed at park resorts Camber Sands in a static twice quite recently.
First van was wonderful very luxurious, and no complaint at all. second one was more shabby and not quite so nice. Both booked through a sun holiday so should've been no different??

Also if going by train when you purchase your train tickets look in to gettting plus bus tickets for the destination stations.

We did this when we stayed at Park resorts Camber, and it was cheaper to have the plus bus tickets to get us to the park on arrival and back to the station on departure day, than it was to buy tickets on the bus.
But please do check this is still the case, we saved even more on the plus bus tickets as we purchased both train and bus tickets with our railcard ( so worth doing)

And one more point if you stay at either site, and going visiting neighbouring towns by bus, check the cheapest way. A return is usually the best, and family ticket are often available.
